I had a similar issue once and it was a faulty coolant temp sensor (not the one that drives the temp gauge) but this also resulted in the check engine light coming on.  As you have not mentioned this I assume you it is not on.
The simplest way to diagnose is to get the codes read and if there is an issue take it from there.  It could be one of many issues (likely sensor) and the ECU is responding by raising the idle - unlikely to be a throttle position sensor.
