    Help from the guru's

Hope someone can share some advice. My work has traded an 06 Td4 Freelander 1 . I was looking at purchasing it for my daughter who gets her L's in January. First I noticed the clutch was taking up fairly low , then it started like an old tractor I think on 3 cyls then clears & runs nice & smooth. When driven is a bit doughy. I put it on a hoist & found a split turbo hose & clamp missing off the EGR pipe to MAF. It needs front brakes & all tyres replaced. I guess the big question is , Is it too far gone ( 263,000 Kms ) or do I try to get it for the right price ? And I guess what's it worth ? I have had series rovers , RR classic & a couple of Disco 1s before but never a Freelander so any advice greatly appreciated. P.S she looks so lonely out in the yard with only a Magna for company.

The TD4 is a good engine. BMW built. Check the clutch hydraulics for leaks. If you need to replace the slave cylinder, you need to remove the gearbox.

Does it only run on 3 cylinder when first started cold and then fine after that?

A split turbo hose and that clamp missing off the EGR pipe will make them very sluggish.
Check water pump, as they are common to leak.
Check VCU. do a Google search on this.

The most KM i have seen on these is just under 400000km and it ran perfectly.
My brother sold his 2001 model 12 months ago with 290000km on it for $4500.

Thanks woko , it got traded for $2500. But I was wondering if was worth fixing as it's never over in a rover. But I think I'll give it a miss as I think it would take a couple of grand to get to a reliable vehicle as a Landie should be. Though a real shame. Does anyone know if the Injectors can be cleaned or is replacement the only option ? Still oh Bugger I don't know.

Lets take it to Moonbi to 'test it out' before your daughter gets it.
Can't let her have all the fun.

    Red face

Forgive me gurus for I have sinned , I really did try but I just couldn't do it. I don't have the space or time to do the Freelander justice & with the daughter saying she wanted a 'fun' car & the missus saying she trusts my judgement ( & she has been very understanding with 4 series in the yard ) I have purchased a GULP Suzuki Vitara soft top. In the end the Freelander needed tyres, brakes, possibly a lift pump & injectors sorted & a couple of seals done along with a good service . I also noticed a damp stain in front of the viscous coupling & well that's another couple of hundred bucks I don't have. So sorry if I've let the side down but hopefully once she's on her P's I'll try to get her into a Landy of her own. Thanks to all for the advice given it was really helpful & if anyone is interested in the Freelander I know work is busting to get rid of it (along with the Magna) so let me know & I'll see what I can do.
