    1998 Freelander 2.0 L series XEDI Issues

So the wife was driving the 'ol hippo today & while idling at the traffic lights & started to run very erratically, drove off at the green light & severe loss of power, couldn't really get over 40 klm/h. She pulled over & stopped the engine immediately.

When i finally arrived I tried starting her but she turns over like it has low compression & knocks now and then whilst thick white smoke comes out from the air box. Who else thinks it has jumped a tooth on either cam or injector belt? As it is still turning over freely hopefully no damage has been caused to the head or valves etc.

Any ideas or experience with this problem would be GREATLY appreciated in advance. This really has happened at the worst time as I am suffering from major bowel issues and the wife has to go in for surgery next week It never rains it just bloody pours i tell ya
