Considering a roof rack for 2002 freebie

I'm considering fitting a roof rack to my 2002 freebie 5 door. I don't like the ones that attach to the 'roof rails' because they sit very high. I do like the type that can be secured to the roof rail system. I have heard of a type called the 'G4' roof rack...they follow the contour of the roof line and subsequently low profile. Can't find anything on ebay. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Considering a roof rack for 2002 freebie

If you check both these links you will note the Safety Devices
G4 Rack for the Freelander is out of stock. If you check further you
will see most Safety Devices products are out of stock, someone correct me if I'm wrong but Safety Devices USA went out of business some years ago.

There is some old stock sitting in a few warehouses in the States, if you are interested PM me and I see if I can find the details.

Failing that Hannibal make a good but not as attractive rack or the people
who make Tradesman Racks might have something.

To be honest I didn't look at the links all that well... it would be nice if people got rid of their websites once their business collapses. I know, wishful thinking....

Thanks for the info. I would really only be after the G4 looking unit, even if it is second-hand. There is got to be one somewhere on the planet.

That's fine. Actually one URL [ Stable Energies ] doesn't say out of stock, so I have emailed them for a price including the BIB part and shipping to Australia. I'll see if I get a reply.

    * Sorry, I had to edit this. After looking more closely (where's my glasses), Stable Energies also state 'out of stock'. Have found this link though [ http://www.4x4challenge.org/forums/v...&view=previous ] to someone selling a genuine second-hand unit in the UK. I guess one needs to join the group to contact the person.

These are the 'current' details for the price and availability for the Outrack roof rack. At the moment the company is not making the flooring.
I have ordered the roof rack with BIB and ladder.
The price is about $2,678 Australian (depending on exchange rate).

    Outrack Roof Rack: $900 + $475 freight = $1375USD

Outrack Roof Rack with Bib and Ladder: $1200 + $545 freight = $1745USD

Duties, taxes and any Customs Bond Fee's are not included and will be the responsibility of the buyer.

Thanks for the info. A little bit out of my pocket but worth knowing. I'll stick to cross-bars and basket for the occasional need.

The other issue is the roofrack is a permanent fixture unlike the bolt-on type.

    But it does look good

I just wander if it would be less expensive to have one custom made here in Oz...
