IRD Bearing play, and where to get it fixed (Sydney Westish)?

    Hi All

In an attempt to track down a bearing noise on the freelander 1, I had the front drive shafts out today. Feeling on the passenger side at the splines, the shaft from the front diff felt quite tight. However, on the drivers side I could move the shaft up and down about 1mm.

SO, out came the IRD. I have the diff out and am trying to tell if the bearing is knackered. The cage and the wheely bits wobble by a mm or 2. Should they?

Does anyone know of a workshop in the Parramatta/Blacktown areas where I can take the diff/shaft in that can replace the bearings on it? I guess I should take the whole box in and have the races replaced too?

    Thanks
    Mark

Give Awards at Seven Hills a call. He's done a few rear diffs on Freelanders but I don't know if he's done anything with the IRDs though. If not, he'll know someone who has.

Got to drop it in tomorrow, got told, if it is just bearings then they can fix it, BUT if its crown/pinion then its a replacement IRD needed. I'm happy its only the bearings on the "diff" shaft so fingers crossed for a cheap fix!!!
