Thread: Freelander 1 Servicing

I would say that 4x4 are as good as and certainly no worse than anyone else.

I have mainly dealt with them for parts and were happy with them - my Freelander has been in twice to them and the first time they were excellent. The second time they decided that my injection pump and injectors needed replacement for a cost of about $2500 when the actual problem was a 5 minute job to remove and refit the fuel shut-off valve. However to be fair to 4x4 every service centre, landrover and non landrover wanted to do the same and I ended up fixing the problem myself.

So I would use them.

Thanks for the advice, the FL1 that I recently purchased is in great nick and has been properly serviced from the year dot. I assumed that the previous owner wouldn't take it there unless he was completey satisfied.
So I will give them a go.

Further to a Freelander v6 90000k service I note that threads on the forum recommend timing belt changes at 80000k for the diesel FL's. Would a belt change at 100000 to 110000k service be OK for the V6? I have picked upthat there could be big troubles in little china town should you not change the belts as recommended.

the timing belt change for a V6 is 120000km. 2 of the mechanics at All 4X4 use to work for Land Rover dealers

Get them to give you a quote to install a low water level alarm next time you are there...

The mechanics at All 4X4 are very helpful,,,BUT a bit of research on your behalf prior to taking your Freelander there or any other repair shop will will show that you at least know what your are talking about..that way, there will be less chance of you becoming a "victim"...

I have been following threads about water leaking in the back window and I do remember when I purchased the vehicle two months ago the carpet was damp in the back area. I thought nothing of it and lifted the carpet and dried it out and there has been no trouble since, however I have read on the forum that above the back window under the plastic strip that runs along the top is prone to rusting and leaking water. I carefully lifted the plastic strip from the bottom and sure enough there is corrosion there. My question is this:
1) How do I take the two side and one top strips off without breaking them?
2) What is the best method to rust proof the area, should I apply an antirust treatment or is there some other magic bullet?
