Just dont screw anything on the panel under the steering wheel as this is an AIRBAG ! ! ! ! !

unit this way all the controls are on the handset. You can mount the main body under the seat with velco if needed.
For ease of use & installation maybe a glass mounted aerial.
Similar to the old phone aerial on the L/H/F corner of the windscreen & your done.

FL2 has heaps of room under the seat, you could probably run the wires down the carpet trims near the door. Let me know where you intend to put the aerial......

any luck with that UHF install?

I have been putting off installing my freeloader2 for about 18months now, struggling with a number of things; a) where to locate the unit inside and b) how to mount the arial with the clam shell bonnet.

I have considered using the glass mount but have been told that it cuts down range and also isn't a very durable install.

I did see a Disco with the arial mounted out of the front grille but i don't really want the arial in my or my passengers line of site, it may sound silly but I have been witness to my Grandma carving strips off my Granddad for doing such a thing, and the legend continues years after.

I don't really want to have anything roof mounted as i'm a bit of a weekend warrior having to park in the city carparks with low clearance during the week.

the new fj toyota has a cool mount off the tailgate door somehow, and i have found a bracket designed for an old school mini for mounting off the boot.

Last weekend i saw a RR sport in the main street of margaret river with from what i can see is a flattened out stainless steel GME "z" bracket that just poked out 1/3 the way down the bonnet on the passenger side. I think that this will be the arial location i will go for but am still struggling with the radio location.

Any suggestions would be great.

I have a Uniden that has a removable head unit and that is stuck with double sided tape to my P38A dash. The mike clip is also double-sided taped on. I used black automotive tape I got from SuperCheap Auto.

I haven't drilled holes anywhere on my dash to fit stuff. It's all taped. this is a very old pic and some stuff has been relocated more neatly.

I had the same problem but eventualy found a solution to all of the problems . I used a uniden uhf with a remote control mic and fitted the unit under the drivers seat . The ariel problem was solved by using a windscreen mounted type, which sticks on the inside of the screen .Purchased from prestige comunications in perth .Used velcro to mount unit and mic the whole thing is neat and works well

Hi mate, I am new to the forum but have found it hugely useful for researching!

I have the same issue currently, Freelander 2 TD4 SE, no-one makes a decent nudge bar that isn't hugely bulky and expensive and trying to find a bracket that will fit with the clamshell bonnet is a nightmare!
I have been trying all weekend to come up with something and the best I can see so far is the lip mount bracket made by Benelec that can be adjusted in many different ways to fit the bonnet.
Alternatively, I am seeing if someone can make a bracket that extends out of the grille and bolts somewhere near a cross beam above the radiator - there is a picture of a D3 with a custom white bracket doing the same thing - problem is you need to drop the whole front bar off the Freelander in order to expose the beams where the radiator mounts!
If someone had the time, patience and effort you could make a bracket that bends int he right spots to poke out under the clamshell bonnet on the side, there's actually a bit of room!
I am tempted to use a windscreen aerial mount as well to make this so much easier, but if you have spent the money on a good unit and aerial, may as well do it the right way.

If I have success, I'll post photos - it is my mission tomorrow to sort this out.

Did you have any luck with finding and fitting bracket?

I've had the same dilemma for installing a CB station on my Freelander 2. I solved it by getting a handheld CB station (Intek H-520) and an external antenna (Sirio 4000 i believe). The antena is fixed with a magnetic mount on the roof of the car. I managed to find a magnetic mount that is larger than average, so it is much more stable. So far, it didn't move and I've used it both on highway and offroad. The cable from the antenna to the station has been neatly fixed to go through the windows's rubber seal, so it's not visible inside the car.

I generally take out the antenna when not going offroad but the mount stays permanently on the car.
