Probably a 2WD version of the Freelander 2 defeats the purpose, does it not???

I was more interested in the SD4 and the updated front end.

Glad we're not getting the 2wd version here, agree it defeats the purpose.

Talk with dealer early this week and LR Aust will copy the models as UK. That mean we will have S, GS, XS (SE) and HSE. The S manual will begin from 40K.

Kind of defeats the purpose to have 4wd when you only use it to take kids to school, and drive to the shops too though... For a significant proportion of buyers, 2wd probably makes perfect sense... a bit better fuel economy, but big enough for people to feel safe as they battle it out on the roads - lets be honest, a lot of LR's current market isn't actually people who use the car as a 4wd.

I'll only start to be really worried if the Defender comes as a 2wd option when it gets it's redesign

Yeah, you might be right there, our FL1 rarely goes offroad and is mainly used by my wife as a shopping trolley, having said that though she loves it and feels safer with the AWD in inclement weather!!!
As far as a 2WD Defender is concerned, a front wheel drive version would be an eye opener!!!
