    Freelander 2 Engine Diagnosis Query

Total engine shutdown (twice) has been finally diagnosed as no compression in the motor. Valve rockers broken and evidence of water found in motor causing a hydraulic lock. Corrosion on injectors meaning water in motor. This caused engine to stop suddenly so that teeth torn off the timing belt and the valves then hit pistons as valve train kept moving. This is what broke valve rockers and further damage to pistons, conrods, cylinder head etc. This car Freelander 2 Diesel from 2007 has only 70,000km city miles and was never driven in rough terrain or through flood water. Dealer says I have to replace total engine for $16,000. Car was always mine and always serviced at dealer. Any advice, thoughts or ideas please as I am no mechanic. For me, this is a disgrace for such an expensive car built for rugged terain.

Does the dealer know what let the water into the engine?
Get in touch with customer care too & let the dealer know who you've spoken to. Then ask them to submit a goodwill request to Land Rover on your behalf.

It sounds very much like contaminated fuel. I picked up a load in Mudgee on the weekend in the Jeep. Lucky that it has a water in fuel sensor. The crd engines of all makes are very much at risk from it. In some cases you can have a go at the garage for compensation.

Hi Scouse, No the dealer had no explanation. Who do you mean by "customer care"?
