    First time Freelander 2 owner

    Hi all,

    I just bought a '09 Freelander 2 TD4 SE. I like to get out camping etc but we also needed a family car as we have one on the way. I am interested in fitting a bull or nudge bar as well as side steps just to offer a bit more protection from rocks and rutted out old tracks, particularly in the state forests where the roads are quite chewed up in places. A towbar, roof racks and better tyres are also on the wish list. I have the 17" rims so hopefully there is a bit of choice out there. I'm interested to hear everyones ideas on options and recommendations on where to get what I want. I'm between Sydney and Wollongong so hopefully there are plenty of options,

    Frankly, I'd just fit a pair of guards on the sump & fuel tank and leave it at that.

    I went one size up 245/65/17 Maxxis AT700 on mine. It will give a minor lift and good traction. I'm not a fan of side steps. Unless they are specifically made as rock sliders, then they do little except catch on rocks and bend destroying the attachment points on the body as well. You will lower your clearence by well over 50mm by having them. I've bashed the bottom of my car in 6 different states and it's all still good under there if a little battered. Nudge bars are not much use either, there isn't much that is solid to attach them to. Believe me when I say the car can take a lot stock standard. Better tyres are your best bet, then concentrate and learn how to pick a good line. The Land Rover traction system is the best in the business.

    They sure do take a battering. I unintentionally got about 3 foot of air at Mt Mee a couple days ago with a massive bang on the landing. All was good except for two bruised heads in the car.

    Assuming you fit the guards I mentioned previously, the other areas to watch out for are the sills and the trim at the bottom of the doors.

    as a word of warning please do our research on the towbar if you are looking at going aftermarket it is not neccesary but i would reccomend using the landrover towbar electrics.

    i am also looking for some sump and tank guards as well as a roofrack for my 2011 at the moment aswell
