    Changing the trans fluid

    Hi,
My Freelander 2 has 97K. The dealer said no service due till 240K!
Question was should I use Land Rover fluid which is very expensive or is it akay to use another auto fluid?

The transmission used is a aisin AWTF-80 SC and is used by various manufactures

Castrol make oil to suit. They wont be the only oil manufacture that do.

    Castrol Australia - NetLube

If its still in warranty I would the LR oil, as if you do have any auto issues they will blame the oil and not pay. If out of warranty I would you the correct type recommended by a oil manufacture.

Given the other auto maker applications listed in the wikipedia, may be worth finding out what other makers...volvo/ford/mazda/peugeot etc recommend / charge for "their" oil for the same gearbox!...or do they all buy Castrol and brand their own containers... as is more likely
