Those not in the know think of them the same as the F1 with a bad reputation but they are a good car. The problems are the rear diff whine, there can be some that have issues with the power steering rack, the key fob can stop working and like any car with lots of electrical gadgets....they can start to falter. Having said that, mine has never left me stranded anywhere and it has done some tough kilometres. I get mine serviced by my local and it doesn't cost much more than any normal car. If you use a Land Rover dealer then you can at least double the cost on everything.
I have taken my FL1 to a local for minor work, but was always under the impression that I needed to take it to Land Rover if it needed to be hooked up to their computers?

When I was in Alice Springs all the locals told me to take it to the dealer?

That's because Alice is small and the Dealer here is on par for costs with any mech in town, has pretty good parts stock and local mechs will stop there first for parts then mark up your price, even for a regular service.

The Alice dealer was good, great guy to deal with & good prices. Darwin prices are through the roof.

I've got a Land Rover and a Jeep and most mechanics don't want to work on either of them. They are used to Jap cars and don't want the headache of figuring different systems. I had to cultivate the guy I use although I had to replace the injector seals in my Jeep last year and the diesel specialist didn't want to do it, so my guy did it and said never again. It's the price we pay for driving better cars......better off road standard, better equipped, better fuel economy, better power, better looking.
