    There are 2 and it has to be more or less in the car near the steering wheel to start the car. Have put both in the small tray in front of transmission stick. So I don't know how the car decides which one it uses first. One can apparently get a third fob.

    Are you serious��, Have you tried in a different location like the back seat?

    I have no troubles at all starting any Freelander with keys in my pocket.
    Even sitting in the Passenger seat.

    out of interest.....how do you shut down the L2 engine if it's a push button start?
    EDIT: if you start the vehicle as normal then exit with the key in your pocket, say to open a gate... does the engine shut down?
