Wooing......power steering
Hi Benni,
Have you found the problem yet.? I too had a distinct wooing noise that followed the rpm of the car - only started about 3 months after I bought the car. Some quick fault finding pointed to the power steering pump. Found a Land Rover Bulletin stating that some of the racks were contaminated with weld spatter at manufacture and that clogs the pump resevoir filter (which is non removable). Easy and cheap fix - new resevoir was about $350 installed.
Easy way to tell is: Car running, stationary, turn the steering wheel and if the "woo" gets louder/ changes tone - its the pump.

I know that sound.
When I picked up my Freelander from Brisbane it had that wooing noise. I bought the car sight unseen (yeah stupid but you can't get anything up here in Cairns without paying through the nose) and on the drive home I thought oh great the diff
. But no. It was the tyres.
It had 2 Goodyears on the back and some Chinese "Goodride" on the front, so of course I thought it must be the Chinese tyres. But no. It was the Goodyear Wrangler HPs were knackered!! They still had plenty of tread but the inside / outside tread blocks were uneven (one high the next low).
You can check if you put your hand flat on the tread and run it around the tyre. If it's not smooth but a little bumpy I'd say its your tyres.
