Thread: Freelander 2 has wire operated windows

I wonder if they are similar enough to the window mechanism in the SZ Territory that it could be adapted to fit.

I had an stuck driver's window when I bought the wife's FL2. When I looked at the replacement price of 200 bucks landed from Rimmers I didn't worry about trying to fix the old one. (it was just a seized motor in the end)

For 200 bucks it's not worth trying to fix it. By time the mechanic puts in 2 hours looking for someone to make the cables, another 2 hours fitting the new cables and getting it to work you already done 4 hours worth of labour + cables and no guarantee it's going to work right.

IMO the new one is 200 bucks, plus an hour of labour to fit and you don't have to worry about it for another 10 years.

Its sounds very much like the system used in newer Jeeps, behind the interior door trim is the plastic moulded panel that has all the bits attached to it... cables, wheels for window, lock actuator, electrics, the whole lot is attached as a single component, I assume to make it easier for the Mexicans to assemble it

As already mentioned, its prolly going to work out cheaper to replace it than labour costs to repair it.

Most modern cars use that system for the window regulators. All good and well until they fail.

This bloke had two that had failed and looking at the Rimmer photo there is only one cable in each as he had two bits of outer.
The engineer remade the cables using cable supplied by the owner and making new ferrules for each end to fit into the wheels as he couldn't drill out the cables from the ferrules. These were crimped by "Metal by the Metre" who supplied the cable and shaped by the engineer.
If it all works it will be good value for 2.
