Tyred old question - AT choices in 2024?

    Hi all,

I know this is a well beaten question re. all terrain tyre choices for 18 inch wheels and have searched the forum for good historic opinions on tyres in years gone by (most of which are no longer available in the requisite size), e.g. the Scorpions.

I have previously had the Continental Cross Contact ATRs on our 2011 Freelander but it has now been replaced with a 2014 which needs tyres badly. I was very happy with the Contis and would happily have another set if I could find them.

Despite my best efforts, apparently the new version, the Conti AX6 cannot be had for love nor money in AUS. Conti AUS says none available anywhere in the country and none on inbound ships.

I am looking at a very small list of options for good quality AT tyres it seems.

Mostly Yoko G015s, Dunlop AT5 and BFG options.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I'm seriously considering the BFG Trail Terrains? Any feedback from anyone with those?

    Really appreciate any insights,

    Kai

    Hi Kaiser63,
Apparently I got the only set of crosscontact a63 in the country.
I believe 255/55/18 are a very close fit and I believe tiresales have them in stock.
Was asking on freel2.com about what tire sizes/brands the guys useb over there (UK).
    Good luck.

    cheers

Wanna sell them??? You happy with them? I found them great personally.

In hadn’t considered 255. I think that might be getting very tight. I know the 245 fit ok but even that is limited.

What size is the Freelander? I thought 255/55x18.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Standard is 235/60/18. 245 will fit well too.

235/60 R18 vs 255/55 R18 Tire Size Comparison Table with Graphic Visualization

They are very close, the only real difference is the width.

    cheers
