    Considering a new FR2..............

Test drove a Freelander 2 td4 se earlier today, came away very impressed. Great looking car and very enjoyable to drive, especially liked the diesel / auto combo...loads of torque compared to my petrol rav 4. Be interested to hear owners thoughts on reliability and servicing costs. Also, are there any model updates due this year??

    Thanks, GMW

    Hi mate,

I've had an FL2 TD4 SE for nearly 2 years and haven't had any major problems. Only problem I had which caused me trouble was a starting problem due to some faulty software. The car would fail to start on the first push of the Start Stop button but removing the fob and reinserting it would get the car going.

The dealer updated the software at the next service and the problem disappeared. This shouldn't be a problem on a new vehicle.

There was a recall done last year to replace the heater which again would already be done on a new car.

Servicing cost me $380 yesterday for the 36km service. The other 3 services it has had have cost about the same. I was quoted $600 for the 24km service but after shopping around I found out that the LR dealer had misquoted.

I haven't had to replace the tyres yet and I expect them to last another 6 - 12 months so I'm happy with the tyre wear especially considering the way I drive it and that it does get used off road.

I can't comment on the new models this year bit but I doubt it as I think it got a minor refresh last year MY09.

I've got a HSE TD4 with the premium pack. Its a absolute blast to drive. The only problem ive had has been a crackling speaker.

This car is great on road and offroad!!! If you work for a corporate company you get free servicing

If you dont work for a corporate company negotiate like hell. One thing i found, is the 19 inch tyres are hell expensive.. $550 each!

Thank god I havent need to replace them yet!

Anyway the FL2 is brilliant all round

I pick my FR2 this weekend (30th) so I'll be interested to know what the differences are.

I don't actually know what they are but there have been some cosmetic changes. I had a MY09 FL2 on Friday while my FL2 was being serviced and noticed that the interier had changed a bit. Different trim around the gear selector, different switches on the drivers door. I think there may have been a different wheel design introduced as well.

Yeah the trim is different, Almond is the new leather colour along with black. Almond is much nicer not so pale. Also the power window buttons have a small change in design, 12V charger has a new lid and the indicator is clear now.

Overall very small changes, but check my profile pictures if you want to see the almond colour.

Welcome to the FL2 group you will love it

PS you must trip it out on the beach and on Mud and Ruts.... personal the Mud and Ruts mode is just amazing! I found that out today!

I was quoted $450 for the 24k service a couple of months ago, then again $450 from another dealer today while I was shopping around. Then when I called to book in with my regular dealer, the one that quoted $450 only a few months back, they quoted $675

I asked them to double check the price, they are getting back to me.

I wonder how often this misquoting happens?

they seem to be a great vehicle so far. I agree, the auto 2.2 diesel has plenty of power. Disco 2 owners looking to upgrade (but dont want something as big as a disco 3) should seriously consider the FL2
