Thread: 2003 Jeep Cherokee KJ MY2003 Limited Silver 4 Speed Auto-Gaz??

Mate - I don't mind Jeeps - I'd buy a JK without too much encouragement (over a Cherokee) but as a very general kind of statement, I'd say this - from what I gather from the Jeep boys on their forum, their chosen marque are kind of like Land Rovers in many ways, if you get my drift. OK for some, bit of a hassle for others.

Have you seen this thread at ausjeep? ABSOLUTE **** - 2003 Cherokee Rengade 2.8 Turbo Diesel - AUSJEEPOFFROAD.COM but thats a diesel. I'd say their build quality is a bit hit and miss just like everything else on the roads these days but if you were to get one at the right price why not go for it.

Like Mr Scallops the JK would be my pick too but stepping over that sill to get in and out would drive me nuts.

The KJ not to be confused with the JK is a bit like the Freelander. Not very capable off road, but very nice to run around town.
When Cheryl and I hired a car in New York to Drive down to Washington, Avis was out of small rice burners so we were given an upgrade to a Compact SUV. We were very amused when we walked out to find it was a Jeep.
The thing never missed a beat. Dealt with the city and freeway driving very nice. We went from New York to Washington and back on one tank of fuel and were very surprised about how little fuel it took to re-fill.
I have no experience of what they are like to maintain, but if they are anything like every other Jeep, it will be the easiest car to fix that your mate will ever have.

If he wants a capable Jeep off road, the best is the XJ (IMHO) they are going cheep these days as low as $2500 for OK cars, you can buy lots of petrol with the money saved, and go anywhere off road. Great D1's are going cheep for around 1K, another option.
If he has heeps of money Mr Scallops is correct the JK can not be beaten. Where they can go, for that price, is by far the best bang for your buck on the market today.

For around towm the very little Jeep (the Compas) is also a really great thing. They really dont use much fuel and are surprising how large they are inside.

Thanks Gaz....note for MIL not mate . She is now looking at an 07 model. At best will be dirt roads as lives out Lamington way........will pass on info...

They're a tidy XJ for sale down oon the Mt Lindsay Hwy near Munruben for about $2700, good starting point for an off-roader if you're into Jeeps
