    camping accident

This is a horrific camping accident ,and it should not be taken lightly ,as been friends of mine Cameron is in stable condition but will hold these scars for life

gas bottle safety ,especialy gas lights need to be checked for leaks daily so please either dont use gas lights or please take the correct procedure and check daily for leaks and dont carry them around by the long necks

    holly crap that no good......

was it just a leak or were there other factors, i.e. cylinder knock over. sounds like liquid LPG may have escaped as well which would have made things worse

i wish them the best for there recovery

saw this on the news a couple of times, journos need shooting.

The first time I saw it the fact that there were kids in sleeping bags burnt was ommited and it looked like a "boozing round the fire with bogans" type event. it wasnt till a later news edition (the late timeslots when people who want real news, not just grammy crap) that the fact that it was a family of assorted ages came to light.

any info on how it actually happened?

    On the edit...

Is there anything we can do to help out cameron and co?

Yeah thats shocking, any help needed? Do they have aircon at home? as it helps burn victims recover when they get to go home.

    thanks all
yeah it looks like the gasbottle had a leaky head and was been used by a gas light which ignited the bottle and fell over pushing it along the ground and straight into the tent .

this is going to be along healing process for the entire family as mum is blaming herself

Not good at all Kelvin, but I hope the healing process goes well.

Personaly I hate gas lights and have always used LED or Fluros. Unless you use gas all the time things like seals and O rings perish and often get overlooked. We had a seal on a regulator on our studio at home perish and it wasn,t till we had guests staying that we could smell the leak on the water heater.

Horrible event - your worst nightmare - you would beat yourself up forever for this one. What could I have done differently you ask over and over again!

Anyway we can do anything to help Kelvin?

I had a scare quite a few years ago with the BBQ gas bottle - the hose leaked and the gas flowed from under the brick cabinet and into the vents in the house brick work and then in through the elec plugs in the wall - a whole bottle. Eventually could smell it in the house.

Always turn them off at the tap now when not in use.

    Very sorry to hear!

I have used my gas light very little since mounting some LED worklights on the 110. I think I might go out and buy a portable LED camping light as well now...
