Federal Couragia Blow out. No2.

This is the second one of the set of 5 on our Disco that has failed. (same wheel both times!)

I assumed the first one (at new year) was my fault and I had clipped something on the gravel road we were on, but this one has just failed in lane 3 of the Pacific Highway at 110kmh.

Luckily the traffic was ok and I managed to get to thehard shoulder and change it fairly quickly.

However I was lucky I had my full toolbox in the car from giving Louis (X-box) a hand yesterday as the wheel had stuck to the hub.

I had to get under the car and bash it off with a mallet. Not much fun really.

Couple of pics:

Guess a lesson to learn here is if you have alloy wheels to take them off and put some anti sieze on the spigot.

Will be buying some new tyres this week. KM2's or MTR Kevlars, in a 265/75 I think instead of a 285.

Anyone else had this happen on Federals?

This happened to me too ALL 5, last year on a trip to the Simpson less than 25K's on tyres. It's a defect in the moulding, Federal have since changed their moulds. I had very long discussions with the rep when I got back from my shorterned trip( As you can all imagine

) was offered a deal on replacement but I will NEVER use them again. So keep a good eye on your side walls as I hate to say they will probably all fail, sorry to say

That's crap...even the other one...shouldnt have happened with a decent pair of tyres. 70,000kms with the Bighorns.....never a puncture/ let down, that really is **** poor,

Keep in mind those tyres have done a hell of a lot of kms and I punished them off road also. Wondering if after all that time and with low tread on the highway they heated up too much?

dont waste your money on KM2 get the maxxis buckshot or bighorn cheaper and way superior tyre in all road conditions

Hey Kelvin,

I went for the new Kevlar MTR's in the end.

Would never buy bighorns or buckshots though tbh - I am not a fan atall.

Tyre preference is a funny thing!

Well the wife today also had a blow out

and I remembered reading your post pete.

These tyres have done 45k not to hard a life and have always rotated with the spare every 5k when I do a service.

Funnily enouph just did a rotation on the weekend and that tyre was on the front drivers side but rotated to the back.

I did not notice any spliting in the tyre and there is nothing in the tyre to puncher it so will have to see/keep an eye on the others.

Still plenty of meat left on these tyres too

Bugger, that's nasty.....

You can be very glad it was on the back when it went - personally I would not like a front to let go on the fender at any kind of speed....

It looks like a very clean cut?? Will be interesting to figure what happened there.

Never had a problem with Fededral tyres

Have both the Courigias and the All Terrains.

Done something like 40,000 kms with the A/T's on my camper trailer which have outlasted both B.F Goodrich (good tyres) and those crap tyres Coopers or Bridgestones.

Gotta say these tyres have done Cape york, the Vic High country , incl the Billy Goat track, the Gammon Ranges, Arkaroola and every where in between.,

Gotta be the driver.
