You have lockers everywhere, a potent vehicle, good driving style, lots of friends to help out (if we don't need to be helped!), and it's just for one weekend .
If you were to be on the sand for months on end, maybe a problem and i'll agree with you, but this is only a weekend!!!!!
You can still look after your vehicle on the sand, no roostertails, no wave bashing, etc etc.
Bottom line is i would love you to reconsider

What Louis said.....you could also install a ERPS system if you are very worried although as Louis says, it's only one weekend. A good wash after will see you right

Just a question... will there be enough beach camping in one area for 17 vehicles?

Where abouts are you thinking of camping?

Stevo68, i have just been for a drive and popped into the "new" Anaconda shop in Nerang road.WOW!!!! What a nice shop, has everything you could need for a camping trip. (except maybe beer and your personal squeeze  )
They have all sorts of kayaks, fishing eq, 4x4 recovery stuff, fridges (engel & waeco), gps (navman, garmin & magellan) , bicycles, hiking, mountaineering, tents, etc etc etc.
So to cut a long story short, if you want any guidance or input, phone me and i'll gladly spend a sat morning with you discussing this stuff. I love it and have been camping for 20years, so i can show you a few things and then it's up to you, for what suits you. Make use of my and other forumite's experience, it will save you money and make the experience more pleasant.
As it is you live close to me, so call me on 041 045 0053 if you want and we'll chat.
Great to see you enjoying your vehicle like this and getting off the bitumen
    Louis

Firstly what are the chances of 17 vehicles actually turning up 8O people have a tendency to drop out at the last minute... but we can always hope everyone makes it

But there is plenty of room from experience on the beach... in behind the dunes provided there are enough of us to push off the backpackers was thinking in between Eurong and Happy Valley... should be fine... i hope.... please.... numbers will prevail!!! 8)

Thanks Louis, I just may take you up on that offer. Will give you a bell when I am looking at going. In terms of getting off road, when I had to take my car into the local dealer here on the coast, still covered in mud, the comments were it was great to see it being taken offroad. I send pics to the guy who sold it to me, I think it is good for them to see the vehicleds get off the beaten track,

    Regards

I have found that most camps have between 1 and 5 cars, so 17 may be a bit difficult to squeeze into one area. One main camp and a couple of satellite camps may suit everyone. Some people prefer the space.

I gather most of the GCLRO club guys have UHF comms so gathering the troops will only be a quick call if required.

Out of curiosity I called the rangers on Fraser. They said that you wouldn't get spots for all 17 right next to one another beach camping, but if you picked the right area you would be close. He suggested around One Tree Rocks, or south of Dundaburra for a group that big.

He also said that the other option was to book at one of the campgrounds and we should be able to get spots next to each other. For this he suggested central station or Dundaburra. Interestingly, this costs the same as beach camping, the only diff is you have to book. Both campgrounds have facilities. We we were on fraser we stayed at DB and it was really good

Here is a camping map of fraser.

Here is info on fraser camping.
