Car Electrics/Install Workshop 8th or 9th April

Currently looking into the idea of having a club workshop for those who either have electronic componants needing fitting to their 4x4's or for people just interested to come and see how things are fitted properly for future applications. Venue and times to be confirmed.
This day is STRICTLY open to paid up GCLRO members only :wink:

Drivesafe has very kindly offered to provide his expertise for this day and has made himself available to assist with the fitting of items such as spot lights, battery systems and the like.
Drivesafe WILL NOT be fitting these items for you but simply offering his assistance and expertise so you can fit them yourself on the day and learn for yourself. Sounds systems will not feature during this day as these can be very time consuming and intricate, but CB/UHF etc can be fitted if needed. If you do wish to have items installed on the day, you must bring any tools you have to assist as Drivesafe can only provide so much 8O

I'm sure we all have questions relating to various parts of the car electrics and this is something that, given enough time, may be covered on the day too.

This day has come about by me being useless when it comes to car electrics and asking Drivesafe tons of questions about how I can fit my spot lights, LED indicator lights, new radio etc

Before I go any further with the content and planning of the day, please post if this is something that would interest you either from a spectator point of view or if you have items that need fitted to your 4x4.

Seriously though, i want to install a few items and would love to be there!
One question though, do we need to bring all the "hardware" as well??? Items such as fuses, connectors, electrical wire, etc etc? These are things that Drivesafe sells on his site, but will some of it be available for purchase on the day??? I'm talking basic stuff here, obviously spotlights and radio's we'll bring..... :?

Hi X, other than the actual item(s) you intend to install, I should have everything else available if needed.

I carry fuses, fuse holders of different types, cable in all sizes and colours, dozens and dozens of terminals in all shapes and sizes, electrical tape, solder, stainless steel nuts bolts and screws for all sorts of jobs and so on.

If you check my web site and can’t find something you think you might need, post it here and I’ll see what I can do. I already have a number of items that I have not put on my web site so ask away and I’ll let you know if I have it, can get it or if you should source it before you come along.

PS, if you haven’t got tool I will provide them but if you have tools and can bring them along, it would greatly speed thing along.

8) mick, i think that's a great idea to help those of us that are electro/mechanically challenged, and its great that drivesafe has the time to help. i reckon you can count me in, at the moment the 9th is still clear [and not wanting any unexpected changes].
mostly i am able to sort my own liclic problems- sorta comes with the job, so maybe i can help lighten drivesafe's load on the day.
i think we had a club trip day on the 9th as yet to be named perhaps we've found it!

One idea, we could also make it a BBQ day as well so if the ladies want to come alone.

I'm keen also.....

I have a set of spot lights to install, and would like some help in decifering all the extra wiring and stuff that previous owners have installed.

I do also have an amp and sub woofer to install as well, but if you don't want that sort of thing on the day, I'll just get some advice on how to do it myself.

Caveman, at this stage there is no reason for you not to bring the sound gear but it will be something that MIGHT get looked at.

Depending on the date and work I would like to attend and just observe and try and learn something, will give a hand if an extra one is needed.
