    New Club for Pro-4WD Publicity

Been thinking if worth creating and environmental/charity/lobby group for the Proactive Support of 4WDers. An organisation which can get out and fight for the rights and push the good news surrounding 4wd's.

    • What's everyones opinion on this?
    • Is this the sort of thing the 4WD Qld are supposed to do?
    • Should 4WD Qld do more than they currently are?
    Let me know your thoughts

I think it is 4WDQLD's job to do but as it is certainly an uphill struggle and as 4WDQLD don't seem to be very public about it - not to my knowledge anyway - it sounds initially like an interesting idea that I would be happy to be a part of.
With the diverse business interests of our club members combined with their proactiveness and enthusiasm, I think the GCLRO would be well positioned to assume some kind of role.

Will listen with interest to others input and ideas.

I concur with Mick, being involved with 4bies for only 9mths or so, wouldnt have a clue what 4WDQLD do/ dont do. Having said that would be happy to get behind something in the interest of my hobby/passion with fellow like minded individuals. Like many things most people arent educated in certain things and therefore many issues that arise are based on lack of facts. Most people are "sheep" and therefore easy to jump on a particular bandwagon without being informed. There seem to be vocal opponents, but no real voice in defense.

    Regards

    Stevo

Stevo has actually hit the nail on the head so to speak, and I toataly agree I always try and educate the uneducated about the 4WD.

Steve is 100% right, the biggest problem apart from a lack of education is peoples' pre concived ideas that anyone who drives a 4wd is a problem to other road users and damages the off road environment.Which for the most part is wrong as we know, apart from a small minority,so if a collective voice can be found then it must be a good thing.

4WD Qld is the state body member of the Australian Four Wheel Drive Council in which we are a member of...
The Peak Body for Four Wheel Drivers in Queensland "Representing Four Wheel Drive Clubs and Promoting Responsible Four Wheel Driving in Queensland and Northern New South Wales"
I seem to get the feeling (though could be off the mark) that they are more interested in the club scene as a whole and only little bits of promotion. From what i can see they sit back and let the Australian 4wd council do the publicity side which we never seem to see.

Not sure what they do in regards to local media liaisons but will give the secretary a call over the weekend to confirm.

    Any other opinions?

It looks very much a case of QLD4WD Ass have concentrated on the quest to keep national and local parks open to 4wd users and ignored the PR on 4wd. something that I have seen over the last 10 years.

It is easy for me to sit on the side line and make comment, However I do believe more could be done in education of the general public with 4wd drive as a sport and legitimate recreational past time. this seems to be lost somewhere and we have let the government close areas without proper consultation with the normal 4wd family.

4wd vehicle bashing is a regular tolerated thing. The arguement that 4wd pose a danger to normal cars is true, the answer is so simple. BUILD THE CARS SAFER, DON'T TAKE THE SAFETY ASPECT FROM THE LARGER VEHICLES.

Short of fighting back with clever publicity I have no idea how to combat this problem. Government funding is nothing more than pathetic, we need to be a minority from an other country suffering HIV, poverty, on drugs, from a bad family with a squaters claim on King george square. Maybe then we may get a fair go.

Until pressure can be bourne opon the government of the day we will be disregarded and treated with contempt. Look around and see the funding dished out to other sports, AFL, Soccer , Skate parks, Netball, Swimming and even guns as a sport. Not that any of these sports should lose funding but we should have our fare share. And how many 4wd vehicles are registered road users in this state.?

    my 20 cents worth.

I went through all this in a club in sydney a couple of years ago. We had the local 4wd member for parliment come in and spruik a load of **** to everyone. These people will do what ever they feel is right to keep their ass in a seat in parliment. The best thing GCLRO can do is look after itself and promote environmentally correct practises through club events. Also keep in good with the local councils for access to areas.

Dont waste your time with political issues 4wders dont make up enough numbers for them to listen to us.

Trust me the more you dig in this area the more **** you dig up!!!

    Justin,

    Couldn't agree with you more.

Generally I believe the 4WD asssociations have lost their way and their focus.
Their general response is "raise it with your local member"
As a club I don't think we should get involved in the political stuff, other than by good practices and responsible conduct.
It is a waste of time, and not our reason for being.

I wouldn't waste time replicating AFWDC/tread lightly, etc. etc.

Jo public, doesn't even know or care who the FWDQ is, and they have less political clout than student communists. If they are so ineffective, what does that tell you?
Like the GCLRO website says, we're all alone, no one cares and the issues can't be that bad.

However, if it's decisive action we're looking at - I'm happy to heavily armour the D2, form a battlegroup, and storm parliament!

Maybe we could spill Diesel or oil on the steps?
Lock the gates and only let them OUT when they apply to us for a permit!
Bundle them into a 101 and drive them around Rover park with hoods on their heads, until they open up all the State Forest areas they closed.

Ok, that's enough rebellion for one day - back to work
