Thread: Spring / Body Lift

You can get an off the shelf spring kit from King Springs at Ashmore. For an off the shelf kit they are good. Just dont ask them for anything outside of the realms of more than 2". MickG has a set of s/hand springs and shocks for sale, they should fit your D1?? maybe a thought. Ask Ricks 4x4 if he can get a bodylift kit from AMV if they do one. Try ARB or Opposite lock they all should be able to supply them. I am not much help as I made mine, so I have never bought them off the shelf.

How did the Disco drive on the way home?? do you still need some flexi flare rubber as I will get some this week for the Rangie.

Springs I use the LRA springs (or Graeme Cooper, same thing). They're a bit dearer than the Kings but offer dozens of different combos as well to suit your requirements.

My Rangie has LRA springs with 180 lb front/220 lb rear whcih offers a soft ride without it wallowing all over the shop. Koni shocks all round as well.

Body lift, got mine off this site for $50 (second hand 40mm body blocks). Total cost inc. pins, a bit of welding of the rear cargo mounts (spacer) etc.. worked out to less than $100.

If you go for Kings (which I am very impressed with and would recommend) buy from Kim at Mermaid Suspension Miami. For some unknown reason you get exactly the same king springs cheaper from him than from Kings direct. Kings can be very difficuilt to deal with as soon as you start asking vehicle specific questions and I get the feeling they really don't want to deal with the public direct. Kim also fitted my poly air bags and he is great to deal with. Rick sends all his customers there.

I have a full set of OME springs and shocks but from memory, only the back or the front fit the D1 - Rick would know though plus shocks. More than happy for you to take them, see if they fit/work if you like - there sitting in my garage gathering dust. Got the full OME kit including steering dampner, been on the car for 2 years. Also have 30mm poly urethane spacers as well if you think that will help but not sure either if they will fit a D1.

I think the springs are the same for both models (size anyway....the rate maybe different) but the shocks have different mounts so they may not fit.

My D1 had a 2" lift (supposedly....very sagged now) so my shocks should be long enough already. So I should just be able to borrow your springs and spacers Mick, and chuck them in to see how they look.

If you are happy to that, let me know, and we can arrange a time for me to pick them up.

I'll leave the body lift for the mo, as it's a bit more involved that spring/shocks.

Looks like I've started down a long and expensive path of mods.....but think of all the fun I'll be having with those 33's on

I guess I was lucky that my Disco had most of the mods done to it when I bought it, so I haven't really had to spend much on it up to now.

Looking forward to modding it more though.

Front springs are different, D2 models have a "tail" on one end. D2 front and Rear shocks do not fit D1.

And re shocks, if springs have sagged that badly, then its a safe bet shocks are A1 buggered also.
