Keen to learn - keen to join.

    Hello GCLRO people,

I have been trying to come down from Brisbane to one of your club meetings - and will try to make the March one. I am looking at joining a club to learn recovery and driving techniques. I don't know what is involved in terms of being accepted into the club but can handle rejection if that's the way it goes!

But to my question - I saw a thread about a driver training day in early March. Well, this sounds perfect but of course this will be run prior to the next meeting - so I wouldn't be a member - guess that means I can't come, right?

But further to this - I also see that one of the minimum requirements are AT tyres - so do the stock General Grabbers (TR) that come with a new Defender exclude me from these events? I mean - I can't really buy an entire new set of rubber just to learn how to use my hand winch and snatch strap on a club day out. And my front recovery points are on order - so not on the vehicle yet - another strike out it would seem.

Is there any chance that the club might run a day with a milder flavour - that stock vehicles can attend, but learn snatching, hand winching etc?

    Regards,

    Dan

Can't really see a problem with you attending Dan, can join you up before the meeting no problems, and if quick can get your free t-shirt soon to as orders close tomorrow arvo. PM me for more info.

The general grabbers will be okay in the dry but if it rains beforehand then the park becomes a very different place... might be worthwhile keeping an eye on ebay though as sets of tyres and rims pop up cheap every now and again and a second set for offroad play is always a good option.... range rover classic and discovery 1 rims wil fit a fender on most occasions.

Mate, pretty much what Josh has said, and part of DARE is determining what capabilities each vehicle has etc. I had Wrangler HP's on for 18mths before I got my All Terrains and there wasnt much it didnt tackle,

look forward to seeing you at crystal creek, you might get to try your winch and snatch strap,
its four wheel drive ettiquette to use your own equipment to save yourself, and we can arrange that you need saving!!
normally our training will involve demonstrations useing one of our members vehicles which is suitably equipped and volenteered for the demo.

Yes - looking forward to sharing a fine bottle (or two) of Red down there Harry - I have plenty of recovery gear but haven't used any of it yet - I'm especially keen to use the hand winch - might have to be from off the towbar as my front recovery points won't be on Grover 'till March 7.

Harry, this why I keep a 'dunga' strap for instances when you need to rescue boofheads who don't have anything, also a 6 pack of your favourite beverage for your trouble too

But seriously you should have your own gear as Harry has mentioned and use yours.
