May I take this opportunity to hijack slightly?

NJZ & I are going to Fraser Island for 5 nights at the end of September, taking a D1 and a D2.

Looking for advice from experienced or seasoned travellers on sand if we should a) Treat the underside of the Discos with Lanolin or similar, b) Do it up there the night before hitting the ferry or before we leave Melbourne or c) use a drive over spray pit I have heard exist up that way?

    Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Peter

generally we find using the drive over washing places very good, put in about ten dollars and when the underbody sprays start up just move the vehicle back and forth in the spray to wash all the accumulated sand off. i like to add a bit more cleaning when i get home and if it has been raining, a few good puddles on the way home is good therapy for me, as i still suspect that the wash water may still have some salt in it.

Treat it before you leave home. In this instance I will beg to differ with Harry. I reckon the underbody spray/wash at Rainbow Beach is marginal at best + I'm convinced the water must be salty as it's re-cycled.

If you are driving more or less straight home, wait till then and really go to town on it.

    Cheers
