as i was tootling home yesterday at tugun the lady driver in front of me decided that the pedestrian waiting on the traffic light island wanted to cross the road [which he didn't as he was aware of the traffic needing to move out while the highway traffic was stopped on a red]
so she stopped, without noticing the numberplate in her back window.
well i managed to prop the disco on its nose and not hit her , whew ,
then it happened
little jap car [maybe a prelude?] buried itself under the right rear bumper with quite a large thump -like he didn't brake at all -
with a land rover the other car is your crumple zone [with thanks to whoever uses that line in his signature]
well i thought about this for a short time , trying to decide if i could move to a safer spot , then hopped out for a look.
little white car man was still seated in his car trying to relieve himself.
the damage was minimal to the disco being a slightly more bent rear bumper and the already cracked lamp was a bit more cracked.
little jap car was a bit worse for the incident, headlamp and blinker assy, left mudguard, bonnet and grille, with some damage to its bumber from the bonnet mashing into it.
well i decided not to laugh, as i thought that inappropriate, and proceeded to let him off as the damage to disco was minor and i was going to fix those bits anyway.
he thanked me for my generosity and then he told me -
it wasn't his car, he had borrowed it for the day.
i did have a laugh then.

i guess the moral of the story is 'don't lend your car'
and for the lady in front, she didn't notice a thing.

sounds like all the idiot sydney drivers are mooving up your way mate

we need to thin some of em out down here!

Damnit Ive seen that somewhere before...

Did you check the mounting bolts for the bumper and the trailer plug... In all the times my disco got rear ended in sydney (Im almost certain that in a previous life that it was a prominant member of the madigras for it to take 31 hits in the back in 2 years) all I ever broke was 1 bolt on the bumper and the screws that held the trailer plug in.

Harry,

I would still report it to your insurance company.
It's possible the owner of that car may try and claim damages against you. Something like, "He backed straight into the front of my car!".

You cannot trust any bugger these days

poor poor prelude... i used to have one of those and can imagine the damage and how far it'd make it under the back of your disco

I backed over the bonnet of a Prelude once in the old Defender

Couldn't see him in the rear view mirror as he was right up my clacker

All I heard was a horn blowing after a bit of a bump, which I thought was a pothole or something, when I got out and looked as I still couldn't see him in either mirror I still remember the look on his face and his eyes as big as dinner plates

then again my rear crossmember was 3/4 the way up his bonnet

Also managed to rip off the front bumper and most of the radiator as I drove off the poor little car

The end result, $9,500 damage to the prelude, I lost 20% of my no claim bonus and had to pay the $350 excess, when I did the claim the lady at NRMA asked what damage to my car, when I said that I cracked the plastic towball cover she suggested that it probably wasn't worth claiming

That is when reversing camera's are VERY handy

Was about to reverse the Disco out of a park in the shopping centre this morning and stopped very abruptly! Saw a small child walking past in the rear view camera.
