    Question ideas for Cairns

    Hello all,

Am off to Cairns in a week or so for 5 days/4 nights. What do you suggest as must do's for someone who doesn't remember the place???

Will be hiring a car probably so day trips or nights out of the area aren't out of the question either.

    Cheers in advance

If you hire a car and find yourself going through Babinda (45 minutes south) go and see the Babinda Boulders. More spectacular than Mossman Gorge. Another 15 minutes south finds you at Mirriwinni. Josephine falls is worth a look. You will pass Mt Bartle Frere, Qlds highest mountain, where there's been a few plane crashes over the years.

I've never been a fan of Kuranda, but each to their own.

Take a boat trip out to Green Island and go snorkelling for the day - probably still quite pleasant water temperature up there at the moment.

Also as mentioned there is Kuranda - but try taking the train up and the SkyRail down (SkyRail is no good if you don't like heights)... or you could always drive up to Kuranda.

Cape Tribulation isn't too far away and it's bitumen all the way these days, unfortunately though it's bitumen all the way these days so there's buses and buses of tourists there

You could also organise a boat trip along the Daintree, always fun seeing crocs on the riverbank.

If you've got time and like fishing there's plenty of charter vessels head out from Cairns... or a trip to the outer reef to go Snorkelling.

There's the night markets as well...

Always very nice to dine along the esplanade, beautiful seafood and nice atmosphere...

You could go for a drive to Port Douglas... even up to Cooktown (it's bitumen all the way if you stick to the inland route, or a little bit a gravel if you continue on from Cape Tribulation).

Plenty to see and do.... oh and the links I've got above aren't recommendations, they're just the first sites I came across when googling the ideas - be sure to shop around...

    Have fun

    Hey outlaw,
We're driving to cooktown today, we should be in Cairns the same time as you. If you run out of ideas & need a beer to think with, give us a call 0421361195.

Depends what you want to see and do? If you do the tableland circuit take in the Mt Uncle distillery nice drop too, maybe mango wines and other roadside goodies. if you want a little off the track try Davies Creek, Emerald creek or Millstream Falls if you are interested in WWII sites. Take yer wollies though nippy up there. Enjoy the trip

A day trip around the Atherton Tablelands is worthwhile. Up the Kuranda Range and then down the Palmerston taking in the waterfall circuit near Milla Milla. The boat trip around Lake Barrine is good value.

You could combine a Tablelands tour with an overnight trip to Chillagoe caves. It's getting a bit nippy up there. 14 degrees at Atherton yesterday.
If you are interested in WW2 history, the camps have been signposted.
