    Tyre balance off the truck?

    Hello folks,

Thanks to DRanged, who helped me find a cracker deal on a set of 5 black steel rims shod with 265 75 R16 Mickey T MTZ's - the purchase has cleared Kat and they're coming later next month.

The fella at the tyre shop has offered to take the wheels back to his place for me to collect - saving me a trip to the coast to pick 'em up. Great stuff, I thought.

So here's my question.... can they fit new tyres/wheels without having balanced them / checked steering alignment / generally checked anything else connected to a wheel change without having my truck there to put them on? The fella reckons they are ballanced off the vehicle anyhow.

Does that sound all good to everyone or should I take the trip down to Ashmore and get them fitted straight onto Grover? Whatdya reckon?

He's right - wheel balancing is always done off the vehicle. In your case, with a fairly new car he probably doesn't see the need to get a few extra $$$ off you for an alignment either so .

The best part is if you get them put on at home then there's less chance your nut caps will get wrecked with a rattle-gun.

Should probably mention that this is another case of Brett at AUS TYRE 'N' WHEELS doing the right thing by club members. Brett seems to go out of his way to be helpful.

as metioned tyre balances are always done off the vehicle unless you have spiders. (you dont)

I would reccomend that after 1000K or so that you take the vehicle in and have the wear on the tyre eyeballed to see if they think a tyre pressure adjustment or alignment might benifit your new rubber.
