ok, i've bent the track rod again, even with justin's diff guard!
in fact justin's diff guard probably saved me from having to remove the track rod in the bush.
it is bent in two places and i now have a noticable steering issue.
does anyone know of an improved track rod for a d1 [this track rod has the steering damper mounted to it]
it is the steering arm behind the front diff which attaches the left wheel to the right wheel [well the hub swivels actually]
i want to go to a heavy duty rod as i have sent enough dosh to mr land rover for genuine soft tubes with the theory that it was better to bend this rather than break something, i have changed my mind, if it is stronger then it won't bend, but may let me know before i break something.
help!

Relocate the damper to the steering rod (front of diff). That gets it out of harms way too, then you can fit a 'regular' strengthened track rod.

thanks for the replies, sorry to be so long getting back, had to work, which is usually no where near a computer.
thanks for the melbourne tip, but as i am on the gold coast i won't bother him.
i have heard there is a fella at caboolture [or up that way] doing them and also saw snake racing do stuff. it seems no one makes a replacement d1 track rod with the damper on it - they all seem to add a damper repositioning mod to locate it on the front rod.
any ideas as to why and is this a better option than the track rod mounting?

Maxi Drive did them, both drag link and track rod, both with or without brackets for dampner. I have MD links for both and run dampners on both. The rear dampner is not in great condition from hits but the front is much more out of the way. Most brackets to relocate to the front change to a Defender dampner which is not pin pin like the standard D1.
Maybe ring Rick to see if he happens to have one buried away, maybe try HiTuff, and then maybe MR as i think they took some of the MD stuff.
