Beerwah 16-11-08. Trip report and pics.

Few of us met up at Camo's brother's house early this morning for a day in the Glass house Mountains.

Eric and Greg in the 109
Garry and family in the Jeep.
Nik and mate (sorry cant rememeber your name) in a 110
Philippe and Chloe in the Disco
Camo and Brother in the Range Rover,
and Me and my brother John in the 90.

I will just link up some pictures and someone else can do the report!

Suffice to say an excellent day, some really serious tracks, with all cars making it up Big Red, and Little Red.

Trip back was interesting as we had a steering issue, and had to 'repair' it with a ratchet strap.

Should be loads more pics from everyone else.

    Good day.

    Cheers
    Pete.

We could not let the Saturday crew have all the fun so a few of us that only had Sunday free decided it was worth a day out. Thanks to Camo's brother Dion for letting us use his front yard to change tyres and leave our trailers.

We headed from Beerwah west and then south until we found something that reasembled what we had seen before (the joys of exploritory trips ) and managed to find the entrance we had used in the past. With Gary knowing the route south to north we tracked down the first powerline track south and with a few U-Turns stumbled apon the southern start to the main Powerline Track, AWESOME having never done this section i enjoyed it, character marks and all Camo soon tested out his lockers and we tackled everything with ease. Having always wanted to do Little Red from the southern end it did not disappoint. Fun! Gary did not know the way around Big Red so just drove straight up it Having looked at this twice before and 'decided' it was not going to happen i watched Gary's lines closely. Thinking OK, maybe todays the day i asked my 3yr old daughter on the walk back down if we should give it a go or drive around, she stated, "Lets give it a go and we can just see if we get stuck" Not able to fight that logic up we went Apart from the shacking hands and clattering knees getting out of the car at the top it was great fun. This lead to the domino effect and i am proud to say every car drove up Big Red

Off for some lunch we then decided to head down Hoi Chi Min (I think thats what its called ). Again, i have only ever driven up this so it was fun heading the other way. After getting all the cars down we came across the large mud puddle we normally slide down into, but climbing out was going to be more interesting. Eric gave it a nudge but the bank was too vertical and he was hitting his front bar taking away his momentum. Time for an extreme winch demistration 0-60 under supercharged winch power........2.3secs We turned around and drove back up as it is always a good fun track and then Camo and Nick headed off.

We then explored the area north of Big Red, following the powerlines to the area around Widow Maker. We had a look at this but decided it was not going to be a quick hill and required some recovery prep so Gary took off and the last three cars decided to try and get back to Dions without hitting the black top, we fell about 10km short but it was good fun exploring the area.

Thanks to all that came for a drive, was a good day out. Looking forward to the next one.

Great work and pics... had a call from camo this arvo, absolutely wrapped at how his rangy performed now dual locked.

Just another kick up the ass for me to get my fender track ready again... been rear locked now for about 3 months and still haven't had a chance to test it out

Yep Camos RR went really really well.

Nik's 110 with only a rear locker went very well too.

I nearly managed to roll my 90 on Big Red too (at least thats wheat it felt like inside).... mmm that was a lot of fun Thanks Eric and Greg for the assistance!

    Cheers

Just noticed that I got the date wrong! Its been a long long long day!!!

Any chance a mod could change it to November rather than October in the title?

    Many Thanks

    Thanks to Everybody for Sunday

My friends and I had a great time; I really enjoyed the way everybody’s faces changed at big red; from fear and trepidation at the bottom to Joy and adrenalin rush at the top.
Not to mention the odd spectator who could not believe how capable our car were.
Ian has decided that he wants a 109 now after seeing the amazing winch display.

As we were leaving, that little climb we forgot to lock into 4WD turned a bit more interesting towards the top, as we were climbing the last of it "Our Friends" in the Jap cars from Big Red were relating our exploits to some motorcyclists, seams we had made quite an impression.

    Cheers

Thanks everyone for a great day out

My brother Dion was amazed at how well all our landys/jeep tackled the hills.
Glad mine made it through the day without incident and got used to using the lockers very quickly!! no option otherwise. Gone are the days of broken engine mounts

Can't wait to go wheeling with you guys again soon! just have to get my springs and shocks sorted a bit better and ready to go again soon.

    Cheers

We didn't manage to do Big red sadly, I had too many vehicles with us and the possibility of lengthy recoveries I had to tone it down a fraction Personally 5-6 vehicles is max for a hard trip to Beerwah.

Did you do the PL track in it's entirerty inc. the mudhole? (we bypassed this, too late in the day for heaps or recoveries). the PL track is great run and always enjoyable.

Dunno how hot it was yesterday but it was cookin' on Saturday, glad I have air con in the dunga

I hope to plan a hard only trip to Breerwah next year sometime

Got to say a big thank you to all on the trip as we had a blast, all capable drivers with well set up cars was a breeze in negotiating the more difficult tracks.
Pete's brother John was saying the heat was a bit much compared to the UK and it hadn't even hit 9:00am,so I'm sure he took comfort in being told that there was worse to come.We reached 42 degree's in the cab with the temp
hovering between 38 and 42 for most of the day.
The 90 did really well until Pete wanted a better view of the sky half way up big red,so we jumped onto the front and he backed down enough to line up again.Once reassured a bit more speed was needed he got up without a hitch.
Philippe's car performed brilliantly as usual and doing some more wheel stands that you could walk under
Gary in the jeep did a great job of showing us around getting everywhere with the smallest tyres in the group.Goes to show how taking a good line can make a big difference.
Camo's rangie was making everything look easy with the lockers fitted and you could see the smile on his face, some nice driving there mate.
For me I broke the passenger mirror on a side angle, not to worry as it's an easy fix and won't cost too much.
I was happy to do the hoi chi min trail in the opposite direction so I could attempt the climb out of the bog, while the front tyres tried to climb the verticle mud face it just wouldn't do it.So with everyone looking on and waiting I didn't waste any time in winching out
All in all a great day with a great bunch of people and looking forward to next trip.
    Cheers Eric.
