but I do have to question the "still drivable"

I was speaking to the last guy who claimed to have done it recently, he claimed that he needed some bodies hanging off his side to keep the front down, this crosses the line from extreme drivable to Crazy for me.

As I said to Michael Bowen about the step on Broken, (Which is worse now than when Cheeky did it a few months ago) I would be happy to try it, but the sensible way would be to motor up to the step, may be have my three try’s, then hook up the winch, a little winch and drive the rest.
(Actually the easiest way after watching others would be to skip the three tries. Motor up, winch, drive on)

Same with Koala IMHO the only sensible way to do the top of Koala would be via winch, not risk people on the mudguards, just to prove that I could "Drive it"

Its should not be seen as some sort of failure to break out the winch so as to not damage a vehicle, some things are just better winched than bashed over.

Just to paint the picture for people who have not seen Koala its very steep water rutted section, with about 4 Cross axle, wheel steps.
The guy who was boasting to me that he had done it, showed me marks on the walls where he had been trying to get up the vertical steps, the marks he showed me, were of his 35’s where he had been biting into the walls on the side of the track tiring to get traction.
Grimaces dream 40 inch tyres would not have helped because the step was about 8 inches above the middle of where his tyre had been with an over hang to stop the tyre climbing.
All he had been doing was pushing his tire into the wall. I can only imagine how much noise was used to bash over this step.
Clearly, this is a case of think a bit, and break out the winch! Safer, Easier, why not?

As a postscript to this story I latter found out that this “Driver” (again I use the term loosely) had later spun his ARB center for the second time, and when We had a look inside His Pinion had been cutting itself a second set of teeth in the crown wheel.

I am thinking his “Driving” Koala cost him more than it was worth. :o

PS, What sort of MT's are you running Tim? PM me.
