    Thumbs up Cheap handheld UHF's

    For anybody who wants a cheep Handheld UHF Aldi have them on special $79 each.
    Yes Aldi, Go figure
    Anyway for $79, how can you argue.

    Handy to have for kids, and close range stuff like winching and backing the van.
    I don't think $79 is all that cheap for 0.5Watts output. - I picked up a pair on special at DSE a couple of years ago for less than $50

    try these guys they seem to have cheap stuff but the quality ones as well.

    Just remember though with these being 0.5w (as said above) they are really only suitable for the kids or direct contact in safety situations, recovering out of the vehicle etc... once you get a convoy of more than say 6 vehicles they can become too weak to get through to the TL etc. But always handy to have around for emergencies etc... just not as a substitute for a good 2-5w handheld or incab unit.

    Yes...very true. I got 3km out of one of these small HT's once and was amazed. Effective range usually about 2km or less. (On flat terrain!) In the hills, strictly line-of-sight

    You can get these for $200 off eBay Two Way Radio KG-689E. 4W output and can be connected to an external antenna, mine also came with 12V charger and external microphone/speaker.
