Well, it sounds like you are earning your keep over there at least....
Have a great time and enjoy!!!!!
Just our luck but whist we were on one of Vanuatus remote Islands, the place we were staying at had 2 Defenders.( only ones on the Island I could see) A 92 Euro spec V8, and a Aussie delivered 2001 TD5. Guess which one had **** itself>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yep the bloody TD5. So kids of swimming with the local dog, Kathryn sleeping and the owner and I ripping into the TD5. Ah holidays, you can go to the most remote places and still find a LR that needs its nose wiped. Got it going but it needs a few bits, so all is good. The old V8 fires up first hit every time, its just been retired from doing runs up to the Volcanoe every day as the rust cant hold the bulkhead together anymore. Photos will follow later as this PC is way slow.
Best site was recovering a new Toyo troopy with about 20 villagers and one white fella (probably more black as I was covered in mud) on a rope pulling it out of some huge ruts.
So back to it shooting off around the Island on some buggies, then catch up with some old freinds.
Tasol, Lukim yu next time
Justin and family
Hi Justin
few yeares ago we took a trip to Moreton island & on the Ferry accross, there was a young family on the boat with a TD5 , once we arrived on the island and drove out off the ferry , we stopped at Bulwar for some supplies. we then we moved on towards our camp site and the Young family with the TD5 had stopped in the middle of the track .the TD5 had **** itselfNot sure what had happended. They weren't far from Bulwar to get towed back, but it was quite disheartening for the yound family as they had just started their holiday and this happened.

2 years ago my Oldies, Wife and Kids did the Volcano Tour.
Early that morning we spotted the vehicles to take us on the 3 hour trip, and the only one with coil sprung suspension was the V8 landy.
The Old Man and I looked at each other with exactly the same thought.....We are definately getting a seat in the Old Landy. I can't remember what the other vehicle was now, but the Rover was TEC,...you could see how much more uncomfortable the passengers were in the other Truck, getting thrashed from side to side.
Back then I thought gee that rear A frame ball joint is very close to letting go! You could feel the play in the back, as well as hear it!
Had heaps off back lash in the drive train as well.
But she lasted another 2 years.
Old Landies never die they just end up retiring!
Mate....ya meant to be on hols....sounds like you are all having a great time,
Regards
Stevo

Justin, you're making me nervous about the TD5 again! So many new model Defenders here in England, black seems to be the favourite colour amongst the townies, and the rear seats look very comfortable. If only Rover Aus brought the 90s into Oz!
See you soon. Have a great holiday.
