Mrs H - Now I'm confused, unless parabolics don't count as leaf?

Anyway it wouldn't idle properly and needed choke until it was very warm to even run so I started looking. Tried adjusting carbie and it didn't help much so I checked the timing. Way advanced from where it should be so I tried to get it back to where it should be and then it really wouldn't idle so I had to leave it advanced. So I got a kit for the carbie today and cleaned it all out and put it back together with everything set right and now it idles and I could get the timing back to where it should be. Quite amazing how much better it runs really. Only trouble is it now keeps running on after turning off the ignition. There are a couple of missing studs on the exhaust manifold so I will fix those, put a new dizzy cap, points and rotor and then see how it goes. Not sure what else could be causing it to run on unless it is just flooding but even then it is a petrol so it shouldn't fire like it is.

I must amit it's fun to get back into a vehicle that I can actually work on rather than the D3. Don't get me wrong I love the D3 and would still take that touring any day but this one will be used for 4wd day trips and close stuff rather than keep damaging the D3.

I know what you mean Tim about the second vehicle for local trips etc.
Thats the reason why l purchased the D1 recently.
The D3 is an incredible car, but to be realistic the car is just worth to much to damage at this stage.

Yes Glen it does. Took it out tonight, first run on the road since fixing the carbie and it now doesn't die at lights and it can pull round corners from low down the revs. I started off in second from a couple of lights and there is no way it would do that before. also doesn't need the choke for any where near as long and seems to be running a bit cooler.

Still running on after turning it off though. Getting the new plugs and stuff tomorrow as they are still waiting for the new studs. It may be something to do with plugs I suppose but it may also be carboned up. Can't think of any other things that would create something hot enough to keep it firing with the ignition off.

I filled it up with petrol only to find a nice pool on the ground afterwards. I think it must have a leak where the filler neck joins the tank so it comes out when it is filled right up. Will have a good look at that tomorrow as well.

Ah what fun it all is .

Thanks Paul, I had forgotten about tyres

Harry, the Game is like all the other Series III and has leaves. This one has parabolics which could almost be considered not to be leaf though .

Latest of the saga - got the parts this afternoon and proceeded to pull the manifold off and found that I didn't have broken studs, just missing bolts. The gasket was a bit sad though so it was probably a good idea to change it. While doing that I thought I would just tighten up the bolts on the flange where the exhaust pipe bolts up to the manifold and snapped one of the studs there. Bugger, it now leaks badly and I will have to pull it all apart to get the broken stud out of there and replace it.

Got the new plugs, points and dizzy cap on when I realised that I had not taken any note of which spot the leads had come out of on the cap and I could not spot any marks anywhere to give a clue. Quick phone call to Zulu Delta 534 (Glen) to see how Daisy was arranged and got it running. Tomorrow I will fix the exhaust and then see if it is all running properly.

Mrs H I probably should change the signature, I hadn't even thought about that. And yes it has a tow bar but I am not sure how it will tow 1500kg. It will probably do it but not real quick. Might have to go back to the other trailer and a tent if we do use this one. That's a bit of a step down in comfort though .
