Pics from Grimace's trip to the Vil, and then Ormeau today

Well after Grimace planning a trip to 'The Vil' we arranged to meet at 630 am this morning for a day out.

Everyone was there on time apart from Grimace, Dallas and Me

    Predictable hey!

So we headed out to 'The Vil and drove around for a couple of hours on the public area, but it is getting more and more closed off so after the 2 hours or so, we headed off.

    Pics from the Vil:

    So to Ormeau

    Pics from the play area:

After spending a while bimbling around in the play area, we headed down to the creek runs with all the cars bar the late model classic which took the bypass. . This was to be a looooong day.

Every one got up ok, but Guy spotted smoke coming out the bonnet on his RRC. It turned out that the engine mounts had failed allowing the engine to move and the front pulley to wear through the gearbox oil cooler line To make this worse both lockers were engaged.

This (along with some Grimace-esque behaviour later would turn our 2 hour trip into a full day drama)

Firstly thanks to Kelvin (Disco Thrasher) for spending an hour or so winching Guy up the exit track from the lower creek run as dead weight. This was a major undertaking and took a long time.

When we had just got Guy to a point where we could tow him to the road, Grimace decided to attempt a fairly serious hill. He managed to get most of the way up before rolling a creepy off the Rim on a fairly serious side slope on a big hill.

This also took us a while to recover.

Big thanks also to Dave (Busman) and Greg (Grover69) for towing Guy out back to the road and also for helping extract Grimace.

Finally huge thanks to Darren (Jaffa) who drove home to see if the auto box oil cooler lines on his Rangie would be a swap and to get some auto fluid before heading back to help again

Tops stuff pete. Good break down of the day! I may have got a touch adventurous at home time !

Migh do a bit more research on the vil and see if i can find any decent tracks south of the national park. There is a crap load of area in there but i didnt really want to soend the whole day searching for tracks that may or may not have existed!

As for ormeau, I need beadlocks and lockers cause today fluffy failed me twice, so its time to step it up to the next level!

Thanks all for an adventurous day, not quite the ending that I would have liked, but as they say **** happens. Thanks especially for assisting in the recovery.

Damage so far is all 4 engine/gearbox mounts and the ZF cooler hose (which is annoying as it wasn't that old) which was cut by the crank pulley. Hopefully not much other damage has hapenned, although that does explain the strange vibrations through the car from the last 4wding.

We considered re-routing the cooler hose until we discovered that all the mounts were stuffed, so it would have still been undrivable.

mmmm Flatbed tow home again from Ormeau

In a perverse way I'm glad I wasn't there. I was going to break in my new rangie (not actually break it) but one kickdown cable on the auto wasn't playing the game but will be going for next year.

Back to 33's for now, sold my 35's after one trip (not happy but work comes first. No work, no play off-road either ).

I won't run a daily driver on 35's, I'm not Grimace . Good to see you all had a great day.
