If you are just looking for a hacker,
I suggest an early model up to say 92.
Cheap to buy & easy to set up
Alot of parts are interchangable with the Disco, eg:
    Engine, drive train etc.
Body parts are pretty easy to obtain also.
Stay away from 94 onwards !!! P38 has to much elect crap on it that can go wrong.
    Cheers Dave

exactly what Dave says ,P38 is a very intresting car which is not a good thing because when something goes wrong you and the mechanic will be standing there scratching your heads with blank expressions on ya faces

But in saying that there are still a few fans of the p38... personally i'd go a '94 classic softdash... very nice and the last of the classic rangies

Though in saying that at that price and if you were prepared for all the quirks, see what electrics you can get rid of, throw under springs instead of the air etc then they still drive beautifully (old mans got a '98 SE)

P38's are a beautiful drive, so smooth and so comfortable, the 4.6 has plenty of power...and the one I drove was running rich too. If you're gonna buy one, get a post 00 model with the improved Bosch injection system, but as mentioned lots of electrics, everything has an ecu...i mean everything.
