What a beautiful car, Guy. Such a shame it had a mechanical. SO - decision made - I am going to put together another GCLRO historic vehicle rally, in 2013, simply in the hope that this magnificent vehicle might come along with us to admire. I have a vision... a group of us, sipping Bollinger, while the sun sets, on yet another beautiful campsite.... somewhere.... with another lovely old country pub next door....and my Matilda, all new engine, cuddling up to your magnificent Bentley...

I might have my series 2a finished by then and I can ditch the modern crap thats in the D3, like the 4.4 V8, the one turn start, the leather seats, the Sat nav and not to mention the sound of said V8
I will instead have a 2 1/4 petrol a can of start ya bastard green swab seats and an exhaust that rattles
I cant wait scallops

What makes you think I can't find somewhere else just as good? I am already all over it......Originally Posted by niner

I agree though - the 2012 event will be hard to top....and so it should be, because a deal of time and effort went into making it happen as it did; so it is very heartening that so many good people came along and made the weekend the memorable occasion it was. As planning is already underway for next year, we should be able to do even better. So I thank you - each one of you, for making the occasion as it were.
But here's to making it even better in 2013. How does a Pig on a spit, in a garden out the back, of a different SEQ country pub, with free camping in a paddock adjacent, with live music, sound???

I'm sure there is...and no reason other people cannot organise more Series orientated trips... But from my perspective, I see the need for a special, annual, Series and Classic trip as we held last weekend.
I feel there are several reasons, along with several benefits, to do just this; firstly, because of the sheer amount of effort that goes into all the detail, making sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed, it's an event that is best held annually! I contacted the Police, the council, the town Crier, the local press...the list goes on...to get this to work as it did. Then there is the time to find new places, routes etc that will work for not only historic Land Rovers, but classic and vintage vehicles too...this all takes time and effort to work through. If such preparation is not done, a lesser trip is the result.
Secondly, a special annual event will hopefully provide an incentive for more members to expand their repertoire and perhaps buy a Series / Classic vehicle. If people do, they will soon discover that these vehicles are different to modern ones (!), so preparation and vehicle knowledge become more important. Readying oneself for that special annual event is a good motivator.
And when such time and effort does go into a trip, we get a result like last weekend - a trip that I'd say was pretty much unique in the club's repertoire.
What I think we need is not so much replications of my exact trip, but other members to stand up, and devise their own trips that are a little bit different to the same old same old...come up with a theme perhaps, a new experience for attendees etc....This is starting to happen with the annual jamboree we are hosting, and I see "my" trip as fitting into that niche too.
