    The Springs 2013

Well great trip all and I think most people came back unscathed, a couple of tyres and a track rod on a Defender. We had an awesome time and it was good to test out the locker which made everything we tried a lot easier than the previous year. After 6000km with the Detroit in the back over tarmac, outback roads, sand dunes and The Springs I can highly recommend them.

    I didn't take many pictures.

    This is where we went

    The test track

I did take a bit of video

Thanks Pete and everyone for a good weekend away - have been hanging for some drive time. And a chance to flog bumblebee. She sounds sweet when given some stick - thanks to Eric/THE109!

I have some gopro video - does anyone know some good simple software to (a) edit some captions, (b) splice clips and (c) then render/save as a suitable good quality but smaller file size?

The original files are fairly large and quality is excellent on my 42 inch screen in the office but to upload I need to reduce the file size.

    Some still pictures:

    The first big hill

    And spectators

    Pete leading

Tara (Josh's wife) - bailing on the climb

    Rocks at shops

Bumblebee did ok for unlocked - rear LSD only - had to take a couple of runs at some rocks and or stand on the brakes to hold the front/make the rear work

I wonder if that is the tyre josh fond flat this morning

Got a little wedged here with a good side throw moment

    The stable

Happy as a pig in the pit

View from top of the park

    Chasing Grimace

If you look carefully you can see Grimace's sack hanging on the back window

    Photo time

Down the hill and some carnage

    Spot the steering issue

Jack and winch to straighten the cheese bar

    Finally home in the beehive

Bugger must have smacked the front left light with a tree branch in a speed run at some stage - might need some protective grill

Video to come when someone tells me how best to optimize for uploading!

Looked like a great trip guys..... would have liked to have come down but couldn't get away on the Friday.

Had to settle with a day trip to Cityview the previous weekend with a couple of mates.

A big thank you to trip leader Pete and everyone else who lend a hand ... and I sure needed it this time. A punctured tire, two dislocated rear springs, a stalling engine, and a bend steering rod. Hmmm, maybe I'm pushing the grey machine a little too hard?
Anyway, new Terrafirma HD steering rods are on it's way from the good old UK, so I'll be ready for the next trip. Cheers, Ed.

Just some bad luck and poor landrover design (the steering rod/drag link). As you say new links will fix the steering. We have all bent one of those standard rover ones - nothing to them.

What spring retainers are you running?

Tyre was just bad luck - the Springs has some sharp rock so just bad luck to get a tyre staked. Truck went well otherwise and good to see it being used.
