    Thanks Phil. The picture is made up of ~180 individual shots taken at f3.5, 30 sec, ISO 1600. The 180 images are then stacked and blended together so that the lightest pixel from each image is shown.

    The camera is on the beach pointing south towards the pole so as the earth rotates on its axis the stars appear to spin around the pole. If you look closely at the stars on the far left you'll see they are individual dots; one for each shot. As you look closer to the centre they become a line.

    So did you have to aim the camera carefully?

    And what software did you use to do the layering?

    Dave,

    I used a very wide 10mm lens so aiming is easy. Focusing in the dark is the hard bit. The program I used for the blending is Startrax.

    Here’s another view of the star trail pic I did but this time as a time lapse of 179 pictures. 23 seconds = ~ 3 hours.

    Best viewed fullscreen, lights off, set the quality to 720.
