Okay, first offical trip report

Well, a bloody hot day to start with. Those with air con may dissageree, but mty old dunga's air con don't work so it was hot. I arrived at the office at Cityview at around 8:50Am after a strenuous 50 minute drive from home, paid my hard-earned to Peter the owner, got the map and deflated the tyres. This was the first trip with the recently fitted reversed Disco rims so I was keen to get off-road and try them out.

In our group (the hard core group), we had-

There was a less hardcore Group led by Outlaw, but maybe better off someone in that group doingg a trip report for them.

Anyway, a total of 18 vehicles turned up (17 Land Rovers and one Nissan). Once we deflated the tyres we were off and racing.

Our first port of call was the play area and a couple of hills above. Up the hill, down the hill, nothing too hard yet. This was a warm up

Okay, something a bit more challenging. Up another hill near the play area I think it was called 'Sams hillclimb). I remember this hill from last trip I was here. Nowhere near as dusty or loose, so the maxi's were not used and it was a reletivly easy climb to the top.

Next wer were off to some gully runs. This required a bit of careful manovering to advoid any panel damage, but our group got through without any major iossue. We had a couple of Toyotas and a Nissan get in front of Matt and myself which made for some intersting entertainment, fuelled on beer and stupidity. We seen them later on at lunch having a crack at another hill which was 'once committed, no going back' type. Anyway, since I was tail end, I made it through the gully run no problems. Def90 (Sam) had a go at the additional section in the 90, but it was a no go for me. I wasn't really interesting in re-moddling the roof on the Rangie today

Okay, another climb and an impromptu lunch stop. Mick had decided it was lunch time after Justin had suggested that the top of the plateau with a nice breeze was an ideal luchsopt, so I guess that was that. We ran into Outlaw's group of not so hardcore drivers.

Once we had finished lunch, back into it again. Another intersting hillclimb that left NOZ a bit worried after his Disco was looking rather precariouly angled from our view at the bottom, but no damaged occured and wen kept going. Matt had an issue in the Nissan of clerance, anchroing himself on a rock dead bang in the middle of the wheel ruts. After some re-poisitioning of the Patrol, it was all good again and as TEC I had no worries and cleard the middle JUST (one thing about Rover diff's they're compact).

To the top of the hill, then down around the camp area and then down another track to yet another gully run. This one was more intersting with an off-camber rock pool with the rear drivers wheel would have some air time. matt in the Patrol was a bit worried about scratching or denting the roof and other panels being a bit wider than our Land Rovers, but no problems and Matt get through incedent free. Once again, I was last through. A bit of scraping on the roof and some re-moddling of the tailight guard on the drivers side plus all the homemade protection gear did the job well.

Back up to the top of the hill, down the other side and into the play area. Justin, Mick and Sam had a crack at 'one tree hill' I think it's called. all 3 had no luck, but gave it a good go. Thought about it, buit I was hot, botherd and had enough. Maybe next time

That was it really. back out the park, re-inflated our tyres and we all made our way home. I made a detour as I went and seen a couple of people I know from the Range Rover Club days and talked to them for about 1/2 hour or so prior to getting back to the office.

Thanks to Bolts for leading the trip, it was well attended and sucessfull.

Well as for the "Not so hardcore Group" we had a leisurely drive around the park... nothing the Landies coudn't handle.

Stuck to the medium tracks only for the stock vehicles and those still building on their off-road skills. Had a play in the playpit with the hardcore group which was the only time a recovery was needed when Harry managed to get himself hung-up on the rear bumper... he could have worked free with a bit more trying but could have also ripped it to pieces so opted for a snatch.

Near the end of the day on our way to meet up with the hardcore group Outlaw & Stikman took a detour into a creek-bed run rated extreme for a quick adrenaline burst and to see if we could break anything before leaving. Outlaw went through 90% with no problems at all till the end where the length of the fender was playing havoc getting between a tree and a boulder. The boulder did kiss the sill for a slight bend but the rear bar fended the tree off quite well... after some help with driving lines from honorary navigators and a couple rocks piled up under the front wheel was through.

Stikman seemed to make easy work through the run with the rear locker and more importantly rock-sliders doing there jobs making it look too damn easy considering the problems i had.

Well after that excitement we had another quick play in the play pen and most of us took off while Hobie18 and Zakros waited to meet with the hardcore group again. We aired up and signed out from the office then headed towards home but with being such a hot day our demons got the better of us and we made a detour off the main road into Albert River Winery for a wine tasting, cool down in the air-con and a couple purchases.

So now we can officially say Yes we are one of those LR clubs the do winery tours

Great day

Yes it was a damn hot day, but that did'nt stop a great turn out. The park was dusty but not too bad I thought. For me it was a day of testing new tyres and running in some new bits, so the rangie was'nt pushed to hard. I think having a vehicle leading the trip that was'nt the most capable car in the group made the convoy flow a bit better than normal. On that point thanks to Bolts and Trav for leading the group. It can be a draining day for these guys and they did a great job. I tell you what though, bring on winter and Rover Park.

Thanks to all that helped make this day fun and hassle free, big thanks to Outlaw and X-Box for leading group one, and Bolts for overall organisation and TL.
The D1 behaved itself and the new rear diff made light work of most that we did. Testing the new addition and having fairly road biased AT's i wasn't keen to push it too hard but did circum to the occasional urge of something more challenging. Keiths Creek did fill that urge with a nice technical creek bed. Outlaw cruised though most of the run nicely, with care full navigation and the clearence of his tyres helping on some of the bolders. Being longer then the D1 the last section took some guidence and careful driving to navigate. Only running 31's i was hung up early on my rear diff but with some Navigator assistance (yeah Eve was happy to get out of the aircon for that

) we followed outlaw through. Thanks to Hobie18 for his guidence through the last section which the D1 handled nicely. Oh Yeah, DRanged, tested the sliders.....work brilliantly

Yep, thanks for a great day out chaps.

You're all a great bunch to be with and I look forward to the next trip.
Special thanks to Bolts for his work co-ordinating check in and leading Group 2. Somehow UHF makes his accent that much more entertaining.

Sorry I took off as quick as afterwards but it was a mission to get home before dark although I made good time getting home - only 2.5 hours back to Coolum....

I had a great time, except as mentioned it was stifiling hot.
Had the air-con off most of the time as there was a pretty mean condensation leak under dash.
Plus I had the a-typical hangover from too many drinkies during pre-trip prep.

Views at lunch were great, the modest breeze was lovely.
Hoons in the 'yota's provided plenty of entertainment. Bigger binoculars coupled with a powerful uni-directional microphone to pick up exactly what the silly tossers were saying while stuck on the other side of the other hill would have been great.

My car went well, as did all others. It was was tricky following Def90 though - his chosen line wasn't always the best for my more modest vehicle / ability.

However I couldn't fault the mechanical side of things, especially the suspension. New 33"s still rub on the plastic inner gurads a bit
But electronic wise I had:
"LOW SCREEN WASH" (topped that up)
"LOW BRAKE FLUID" (not)
"ABS FAULT" (bullcrap)
"TRACTION FAILURE" (Ahem, apparently not)
And of course the trusty HEVAC Book Icon to telling me I had an Air-Con Condensation Leak. Like the swimming pool in the passenger footwell wasn't a dead give away...

Anyway, here's one of the very few pics I took - on the tyres in the Play Pen.

Yep, a good day it was!
It was hot, hot and then some, and i'll be wiping dust out for the next few weeks.....
Being in the "tame" group was nice and just a good day, nothing too technical or vehicle-threatening - that is until i sort some new tyres out! The locker hardly worked.
As mentioned before, lots of entertainment courtesy of toyota, some very interesting comments on the uhf (monitored both groups), lots of dust and heat, very little damage, good trip leaders, and a wine-tasting on the way home!!!!
Thanks all for a good day, and to think i forgot the camera at home???
Need i mention the fantastic range of vehicles we had there????? Awesome!

Yes Hardy, I shut the gate

Looks as if you have another 'large' repair bill for the HEVAC repair if it's that unit (dad had his done last year and as you know, not bloody cheap

). At least you had air con, I had nothing.

Like Justin said, bring on the winter. Levuka in a couple of weeks shouldn't be too hot though.

Yes well you live and learn I guess. The right foot can get you out of trouble but can also get you into trouble.

Thanks to all that helped, its good to know that the advise you are being given is the right advise.

Also thanks to Bolts for the tug back onto 4 wheels, I owe you a recovery.

It was another testing adventure and I hope to keep it on at least 3 wheels next trip
