Thread: Ormeau day trip 17th Feb 08 - The other group

I won't steal Bolt's thunder re the trip report but want to post my pics, so in summary:

We met:



Bolts, Steinzy, Richard, Navron and myself went our way.

I followed Bolts through some water (Camera boy forgot to press Record at this point), then Steinzy.




2 hours of mucking around resulted in the rangie being towed for a few hundred metres where it decided to play ball again. Cameraboy talked to the dog.

It's 11.30 by now so we're heading out. A Patrol is broken down and blocking the track. A pair of Zooks squeeze past us going the other way, one gets a flat while 3 cruisers blocked our rear. Another 30 minutes sorting out our exit.

So down we go only to come across another cruiser stuck on an exit out of a creek. He backs out for us, Navron gets up and has to snatch myself, Richard and Steinzy.

Stikman's now joined us and I find myself in the lead banging up against big rocks. Clear that and find I've managed to put a rock through the wall of my rear passenger tyre. Said tyre had suffered a puncture late last year reccing a GCLRO trip with Inc and was repaired and put back on by a well-knowing tyre repair company.

We spent an entertaining hour or more possibly, with ten blokes breaking 1 D3 wheel brace (LR tell me this morning they'll replace it under warranty), a tension wrench and later a socket (PM me Stikman with the $$). Using 3 jacks (Yes, I'm out this week to replace the scissor jack) and everyone secretly wishing I could actually afford this D3 and hence was willing to drive outa there on the alloy rim (yes, no one said anything but you were thinking it), we managed to strip the "for show" casing off the nut so it was slipping around the actual wheel nut. Lots of groaning at this stage, I can tell ya!

To the rescue came a Patrol driver with a broken leg (no joke) with an old 4 spoke wheel brace and hammer. Somehow the wheel nut casing came away in the brace, which allowed us to apply a smaller socket on the brace and with the assistance of a hammer and D2 bottle jack (to keep the brace square to the wheel), the nut finally came off.

Stikman gets past me and we wind our way out where Steinzy's RR over heats. We pool our water supplies to get it going, then it rains and his wipers fail. I think there was more trouble on the day but others can add that detail.

Bolts, I know you were shaking your head with all the goings on but Andrew and I had a good day, learned heaps and got to know some people a lot better. Thanks for leading and getting us all outa there!

LR replaced the brace under warranty yesterday and the wheel nut cost $30, which I thought was reasonable given LR's parts pricing. New tyre was $446. I went out and bought a 22mm socket and 450mm wrench to use as a wheel brace.

Still looking for a suitable jack.
