Thanks to the committee for organising it, it was great. As a newbie I definitely learnt a lot. I liked the idea of pairing up newbies with experienced drivers. Camo didn't jump out screaming for his life at any point.

Only damage I did was knocking off a plastic corner moulding above the rear bumper on driver's side when I dropped into the big pit. Who needs these things anyway. I haven't told my wife about that yet. It's her daily driver and she doesn't even like me getting mud on it so she wont be happy.

    Well,

This was our first family trip with the GCLRO club, though not the first with alot of the members, the opporunity to get the DARE behind us and meet some more people.

We met up with a few of the Brisbane chapter of the club, and headed for Chinderah to hook up with the remaining stragglers that didn't go down the night before. Slipping into the park we find the everyone relaxing in the top campground, introductions are made and we erect the feed station.

It is now what we came for. The driving. We run through the theory section and head out to do some driving and skills.

The park is very scenic, and we enjoy the veiws as we tour around it. The tummies are rumbling so it is back to base camp for Stevo (Cheif BBQer) to do his stuff.(not the late night stuff, the other stuff)

After lunch, a bit more skills testing and demonstrations before being led up the garden path by Harry, which after much discussion and bravado(the talking kind) we decided to retreat from the boghole another group had a sticky stuation in earlier and find a more suitable place for our shennanigans.

Ho Har stuck his nose in the water, only to need to be removed in reverse. We then set off back towards camp to drop over the steep ledge into a waterhole on the way. The various parties set about relaxing and socialising, gathering firewood, fixing busted bits, preparing dinner and generally having a good time. Stevo managed to have enough of a good time for about 4 people, before taking the most indirect route from the fire to bed at the very end of the night.

With the dawn of a new day upon us, it was brekky time, goodbye to some and a bunched drive for the rest to tackle some of the more technical parts of the park. It wasn't long before we found some sections to put the thinking caps on and demonstrate lines, techniques and different vehicle and driver capabilities.

MickG led us up a clay hill with some ruts and morning damp making things a little bit greasy, but staying well right had the group up to the top eventually. A couple of attempts for some, and over the hill we went.

We rolled along the ridge, down a steep incline and into the water pit for some fun. We came accross another group in the park, shuffled past and up a tree-rooted, and rutted climb. The good old sal in the back of the 130 did it's thing and took me a couple of chops to crest an otherwise reletively straightforward climb.

We decended down the valley to have a go at Harry's track that claimed his axles on the friday. MickG led first in a nice steady controlled climb. Mator was next with the cobwebs being well and truly blown out of the tailpipe of the v8, and some howling rubber as the diff anchors he was using eventually lost the struggle to impede his progress. JohnR was next and the Big Black Puma clawed it's way to the top, with a little wheelstand thrown in for good measure.

Dranged in the rangie made it look so easy he could have done it in reverse. After knowing the outcome before I tried, I thought if I could keep the back wheels out of the rut to the right I just might have a chance, but the problem was the track was deeply cut into the hill with steep banks and wombat holes in the first quarter of the run. Everything was going to plan until the rear stepped to the left and trying to get them back to the right put the right front up the bank and gave some air to the left. On readjusting the front slid left too. Tried the left bank, but the same, rolled back, no dice, so rolled out in reverse managing to do more wheelies on the way down and took the escape route. It looked worse than it was or felt.

Rob in the 90 made a valiant effort only to be thwarted, and Dranged towed him up from about the one third mark.

We then headed down and around to another small climb that came back up the other side of the hill. The track had a dirt step up that managed to catch out a few. Psimpson7 driving Dranged's vehicle was one with a nice faster than expected reverse, Mrs Ho Har had a go, then went off to conquer another track. Damien took a couple of goes to come to grips with the best line as did X-box. Meanwhile in the shuffling at the bottom, Weeds managed to find a soft patch that required some assistance.

We returned once more to camp, stowed our gear and said out goodbye's. JohnR, Disco Stew, Weeds, The Ho Hars and ourselves headed for Chillingham for ice cream, then up the Numbinbah Valley and over Beechmont for the trip home.

Thank-you all for the weekend. We had a great time and look forward to doing it all again.
