    this a false poll, no-one needed rescue, this was a harry trip.
    and it would be rare for me to rescue other marques,
    i only do that if they are on our trip, or are blocking the track.

    Wink TEC Report

    Having noticed that we were duly designated as Tail End Charlie (TEC) for this trip, Cheeky was very excited and woke up early to get to the meeting point at the Nerang McDonalds bright and early. Not quite as excited as our Trip Leader who was apparently up at 3:30 am checking on the weather.
    We arrived at the McDonalds at 7:30 and parked in a prominent position, after deciding that we didn’t like that Scottish food, and having time up our sleeves we shot off to the shops to grab some lunch. We drove to Coffs all day yesterday to pick up a cheep MaxiDrive diff (Thanks Philippe) so we were a bit rushed yesterday and the early start meant we had not prepared for lunch. Again we were foiled because all the shops were still closed.

    Returning to the Scottish Fast Food outlet, we discovered Land Rovers assembling.
    At 8:00 on the dot a convoy of 5 vehicles hit the road. Stopping in Beaudesert to correct the Lunch problem and purchase an axe for Harry we picked up 2 more Land Rovers and headed into the Park


    We started gently doing the Blue Square and Black Diamond Tracks.
    The new owners are doing good things, the tracks were marked clearly and rated nicely according to and easy to understand scale.
    Similar to the Track Ratings found at a Snow Ski Resort
    Green Triangle = 2WD
    Blue Square = Standard 4WD
    Black Diamond = Challenging 4WD
    Double Black Diamonds = Difficult 4WD
    Red Cross = Lift and Lockers required
    Double Red Crosses = Roll Cage Required

    All tracks up to and including Black Diamond are aimed at standard vehicles.


    Being lunch time we headed to the play ground.
    Boys being Boys some had a bit of a play.





    Some more than others - Roll Cage?????


    We then attempted to find more play area only to discover that the track we were on was Red Cross.






    After lots of great driving we found the end, yup Dead End, so we turned around and did it all again.


    Some recovery’s were required on this track (Photos posted when voting is finished)





    Some bad luck for killer, a rock got a sidewall and we all heard the worst sound in wheeling.

    Scenic Rim 4WD Park 20th June 09

    Had a great day and gave the D3 a bit of a work out.
    Did have alot of issues with bottoming out, due to lack of clearance.
    Harry, glad you told the D3s to turn around on the last run, as going on what happened to Mick, Mark & l would of been in the same situation.
    A good example was Mark aka (White D3) went into the wombat style track & pulled off the lower right hand plastic skirting. (Lucky to say it only requires a few new fasteners).
    Got the girny into action when l got home, and l think half of Beaudesert came off the car.
    No damage to report and enjoyed the company and special thanks to Harry as Trip leader.
    The wife put a little footage together, but not very good quality.
    Thought l would post it away for a quick look at the day.
    Wished l took some footage on Harry/Trav & Gary drifting sideways up a
    very steep & wet track with the the rev limiter hitting on each vehicle.
    Gaz nearly came within a inch of creating more voting damage !!
    Sorry we left early, but as we could not join the grp on the last run, we had some lunch and headed back to the coast.
    Mick sorry to hear about the tyre !!
    I came close doing that at the Springs !!

    I was wondering where you lot got to....now I know....and I'm thankful for that turn around Harry. Sorry I couldn't hang around, not part of the plan as I had to pick up No 2 son from Southbank at 4PM.

    mark, when you called to say you were leaving, was just before the tyre problem in the above picture.
    mick, if i had realised you were in the longest truck in the world, i would have waved you off with the d3's, sorry for that.
    i don't do extreme trips, and that was as extreme as i want to go, sorry gaz and trav, dents and broken driveline stuff is not my go -- i did notice that a certain front diff lock was never engaged -- someone else is also scared of breaking something!!!!!!!
    trip report- we met at the hamburger shop at nerang, drove to beaudesert, stopped and got more food, and an axe, moved on to a comfort stop and then met the others,and got to park,
    we won't mention the small navigation error by the trip leader, as he didn't know where he was going.
    after dropping tyre pressures we headed off for the scenic track and enjoyed the view, the trip leaders progress was inpeded by having to slow as the tailing car kept dissapearing from view, this was most likely caused by the passengers in the following vehicle, as the lead vehicle had none, so there weren't any complaints from the pax, for hitting bumps at full bore.
    this may be rectified in the next trip, but i doubt it, as the v8 just sounds fantastic growling up a hill in low range first at about 6000 rpm.
    after a bit of track retracking and scenery we found ourselves back at the base and proceded to the new play area - wombat holes took mark's placky bit off and we managed to find a track we shouldn't have,
    err, to say it was bad, well yes, it was a track restricted to roll cage vehicles -
    accidently our hero trip leader found himself on the wrong side of the creek, and with no easy creek crossing in sight, drove the hill way out -
    oh lordy lordy, holy mother of jesus,
    when the 'hero trip leader - now stupid idiot' was confronted with a fallen tree across the track, there was no stopping him, stopping meant rollover or sliding into trees and a damm lot of inconvienent time wasting recovery, so 'hero-richard head' drove through the fallen tree and escaped being caught by the 'you drove through a xx red area police' by the skin of his teeth.
    this was followed by cheeky and trav - trav got caught!
    well i didn't know we wern't supposed to drive it!
    so we went on to the next track, and at the first encounter our hero realised that he would have to work way to hard to recover vehicles, and warned the two d3's off, so they went and did lunch.- them d3 boys is smart, hero and his followers ain't.
    we travelled on down a creek track and managed to get all the way through only to find it was a dead end.
    this was not the easiest track, we had a couple of near rolls and slides, due to way off camber creek entries, beautiful creek gorge scenery, wonderfully tight routes past enormous rocks -[killer- how did you get that extended longwheelbase limo through?], a bit of track building on the way, a bogging in the soft track, a reverse recovery to prevent a rollover, a blown tyre in a difficult creek crossing,
    and not a complaint, [ahh, think killer may have said something like 'poo']
    and some children wanted to eat and one i heard wanted to do something else.l
    we got out of the creek and were told that we were the first to use that track !!!!!!!!!
    well blow me down, that track will now be a lot easier to drive, as we built it!!

    thanks all for a great trip,
    we went where no no 130 should go and returned.

    we had rain all the way to the park, and just a bit as we got there, and no rain all
    day.
    the new park owners are trying to improve it as best they can and took interest in our trip today.
    thanks to brendan and his team for such a good job of improving the park from what it was.

    Ok I guess this poll was pretty obvious, we all know who is there to help us out when we are stupid or suffer misfortune (like killer this trip) or just need a guide across a tricky section.

    Yes the guy on the Jack is Harry.



    I am sure that all club members appreciate having a bloke of Harry’s ability on trips and his willingness to help out has been proven time and time again.


    So congratulations Harry GCLRO voted most likely to come to the rescue.



    I was going to run a “Cheeky to the Rescue” campaign but got distracted solving the issue of the mystery navigator
