I used to run a 94 V8 and the 20 ltrs per 100 kms was killing me. I love my Tdi and she is easy to service, no pesky electronic fancy gizmos to go bust on me. Oil and filter every 10,000 ks and she sweet.

I'd recommend the addition of lpg and a 15 ltr lpg tank to anyone on diesel. You only need a small tank as I understand it adds the gas into the air intake and burns the diesel more efficiently giving you the good mileage.

The guy I bought it from rebuilt the engine and so far in 60,000 k's I have replaced brake pads all round, shockers and some steering components and a faulty clutch slave cylinder. All bought el cheapo from ebay uk.

Cheap happy motoring in my LR. Happy chappy.

    hey mate,

how many lts of gas do you use aswell?

7.9 is also most as good as a getz or a petrol gollf.

Put it down to driving style. I drive economically, rather than for economy. Read the road well in advance, allowing the vehicle to slow naturally rather than using the brake; accelerate gently and drive at 50-60 kph. It not only saves fuel but tyres, brakes and one's sanity particularly, but wear and tear and maintanence generally.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I'm confusing you. The car was bought in Aus, I buy all the parts for the Disco from ebay in the UK, way cheaper even with the frieght.

Good for you, I do exactly the same. It's amazing how many people get really wound up behind the wheel. Chill people it's good for you !

You are spot on Keith I used to commute with the wife's VW Golf from Portarlington to Camberwell daily and I'm getting about the same economy now driving a great car.

I have never put in more than $6 worth of LPG when I fill her up.

I think Martin is refering to the parts, not the car, coming from UK.

    Keith,

When I had the flat in Freo and was driving to & from every couple of weeks, I was regularly doing the 640km on 62 litres (TD5 manual).

Didn't seem to matter how loaded / empty the vehicle was, and even pulling a trailer (loaded) did not seem to make a lot of difference. Only trip I used noticeably more was last trip down to pack up my gear, pulling the trailer empty on the way down there.

I usually sit on around 120 on the cruise control from about the Northam bypass through to Kal.
    Cheers .........
