Thread: Houston, we have a problem

Well what was going to be a wet but hopefully fun enough week end ended a tad early.Had planned to travel out through the Avon wilderness,then down Billy goats and to the Wonangatta caravan park.Got a little way into the Avon wilderness when not one but both front upper shocker mounts broke of .Now as you all might surmise this is not a good thing to happen but wait there is more woe.There is a retaing plate of sorts to hold the springs in place.The one on the left side bent and allowed the spring to move of its upper perch.I noticed this had happend when there was a loud twang and the left front was a bit lower than the right. So quickly found a suitable tree and winched the front up and repositioned the spring.All good so far,also removed the front shocks so they would not cause any more damage.So decide to head home.Now there is a whole new driving experience.For those that want to try some thing different next time you are out on rough tracks.Remove your shockies.Bit like those yank pimp mobiles that bounce all over the place.Was taking it slow but the left spring freed it self again, so another tree and another winch etc.This time I renovated the bent plate and re installed it.So taking it nice and easy I got back to Hey Field.Asked at the General store/servo if there was welder about.No luck, so a slow drive home keeping mostly to back roads.Was driving a lot better on made roads.Copped that storm out the back of Warragul.Had to pull over as there was crap flying every were and one speed wipers were not much chop.So just another day in paradise.
