Question Value needed for 1980 SWB Landy please

Mrs Crackajack here. Hi everyone. I need your help. My Dad passed away 12 months ago and Mum has decided to let his pride and joy go. It's a 1980 SWB Landy. I don't know much about these so please bear with me. It is mostly original. The things that are not original are add ons that can be removed. Things he changed, such as the tow bar, can be changed back as he has kept the original parts. While Dad was still able he polished it often and looked after it very very well. I'm not sure how many K's it's done but can find out.

Mum has a collector looking at it but she doesn't know what she should be selling if for and neither do I, but it's in such good nick that I feel it should be worth something. I don't want to see Mum get ripped off. Can anyone help me out on giving me a figure that you thinks Mum should be asking for it?

    Thanks heaps and heaps,
    Mrs Crackajack.

Hi Mrs crackajack, sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.

Hard to say what value, on the information given, and without pictures.
I'll save you the hassle and take it for $500

Seriously though, it would depend on how many k's, and the overall state of it.
Series 3's are pretty common, and not that sought after either, you'll probably be disappointed if you're expecting much.
Without seeing it, and going on Series 3's I've seen and bought...if it's in really good nick, probably $3,000, up to $5,000 or so, if it's excellent.

Can you post up any pictures?
That might be able give people here a better idea, and therefore a better estimate.

It is difficult to give a price from your description, as it is very dependent on condition, not just appearance but mechanical condition.

If it is (as I assume) a hardtop, with no significant rust in the chassis or firewall, registered and roadworthy and going, and looks "looked after", it could be worth as much as $3-5,000 (cross out any one of these conditions and start reducing price!).

But you need to realise that there are not too many of these come on the market, and also not that many people looking for one. Put one on the market when nobody is looking, and you will only get a sale for a price that is "too good a bargain to miss". Put one on the market when there are two or more serious buyers looking, and the price can get ridiculously high.

Unless there is need for an urgent sale, I would try around $5,000 and see if it sells - you can always reduce it! But I have to emphasise that the price you can get is largely dependent on condition. The mileage is not particularly significant, especially because the odometer only goes to 99,999km - and there is no way of knowing how many times it has passed that.

The Series 3 Landrover was produced with no significant changes from 1971 to 1983, and the main advantage of the 1980 over an earlier one is simply that it is newer, and hence in better all round condition. (Any special history may garner a lot higher price!)

registered and roadworthy as above. hope for it but realistically you might only get 2.5k for it.

Thanks for your replies. It is a hard top and has no rust in the chassis etc. It is in excellent condition so Mum and I think that she will start at $4500 and can come down from that. She is glad it's a collector wanting to buy it since Dad paid such special attention to it. He was it's second owner. It's first owner was an old bloke who drove it around 5km into town once a week to do his groceries. Mum and Dad took it on a couple of holidays but other than that it didn't do any great distances, so it quite possibly hasn't got up to the 99,999km yet. Thanks heaps for your help.
