Matt, it is a Tdi300?
How many Km?
If is a Tdi for sure you will get more than $2500 in parts
Injection pump is about 600 to $ 700 for a second hand
Alternator, gearbox, etc etc.
Think about it
Cheers
I had mine today, and they said it's a write-off, so they want to give me $7k for it and I can buy it back for $2.5k, but it will be un-registered and un-roadworthy and be put on the register for repairable write-offs.
Now I'm not sure what to do! If I buy it back, which I prefer to do, I need to get it re-roadworthy, which should be a problem with the spare $4-5k, but do i need to get the panels repaired to re-register it with vicroads? It really is just the roof (which u can't see anyway) and the bonnet that needs fixing, which is easy trip to the wreckers and a quick re-spray.
Has anyone else been though all this recently with Vicroads ? interested to know what happens !
Just re-read some more on the VicRoads Website about re-registering a written-off vehicle.
On top of getting it roadworthy. I have to pay VIV Inspection fee of $484 plus then the registration of $800/900
Starting not to look like it is worth doing!
Thx
Matt.

The theory of repairs seems OK, except that panels are in very short supply. I was talking to a 4WD wrecker here in Sydney the other day, and he told me all his panels are heading south - he is very short.
In NSW the RTA mandatory inspections only apply to vehicles newer than 10 years - a $430 fee. For cars older it is merely a blue slip - about $70 and far less stringent.

Sorry, forgot, my signature isn;t there.
It's a 1997 Series 1 V8 3.9 Disco, Auto, done 190,000kms no problems with it other than I had the sticky valves at 90,000kms which where fixed and I've had it for 10 years now.
Probably needs new disc's and pads all round and the transfer box is leaking and new windscreen for roadworthy.

SupporterMy mum in Upper Fern Tree Gully (just down the hill from Upwey) has a 1989 Mercedes Benz 180 - insured value $5500 - Insurance co (not sure who - either RAVE or APIA) 'wrote it off'. She had to pay $500 excess, insurance co paid her $3000 & she got to keep the car - no talk as far as I am aware about un-registered & going through a VIV, but she can only have 3rd party insurance on it now.

I'm still waiting to have my 84 RRC assessed for bad hail damage from last September. If its a write-off (it will be - damage everywhere) and I buy it back, my insurer will deduct the refundable rego that's left from the pay-out if I want to keep it registered.
