Rear storage & Barrier on a budget.

    Hi All

Getting close to finishing my rear storage, and cargo barrier. I have managed to find a spot for most of the basic camping needs. All of this has been done over the last year and funds were to say the least a bit tight!
The whole unit can be moved forward when the rear seats are folded to provide more storage and utilises the cargo tie down points to secure it. It is able to be removed if required in a few mins, fairly light weight but strong enough to do the job.

The barrier is only there to stop bedding, pillows and light weight items from flying around. Anything heavy like the toolbag and the fridge will have to go through the back seats as well as the barrier to do any damage.I tested the joins in the webbing and each join will take my plus 100 kilo's while i jumped around with the webbing clamped in the Vice.

I am still working on the fridge slides, although I do not have a drama getting to it where it is My slightly shorter partner has to stand on the rear bumper to open it.

The only expense so far was the Aliminium and the joiners ($200.00) A few bolts, screws, and rivits the rest was left over stuff from previous projects.

Will be intrested to hear your comments and suggestions.

Tas130 has made the read cargo storage from the same alloy/connector components and has held up really well from what he said. Really cheap to do, and you can change as you like if the requirements change.

Similar to what I did with my previous Discovery. I used drawer slides from a photocopier (which I happen to repair) for drawer runners. These are good for about 60kg weight.

Here's a couple of pics for reference.

More pics available if you want.

Works really well have done about 50000kms with these drawers still as good as the day I made them.

Thanks for the pics, I have been eyeing off the Girlfreinds filing cabinets for a while now, best I dont!, Got the ideas from previous post on here, thanks to those involved. Think the different solutions help to make something that worked for me.

    Andrew,
Any chance of seeing some pics of the cargo barrier and its mounting points.

I am thinking of making one myself.

Nice work Andrew..I think Keithy on here did something similar. Have seen the aluminium and joiners at BBC. How is it secured to the cargo area or is it just in situ?

No probs Dave found this one , not real clear but think you will get the idea, every thing is braced with stainless plates and mounted onto the existing tie downs. Will try to get a few more detailed pic in the daylight
    Andrew

Sorry the pics not all that clear will try for better one in the daylight
