    for those thinking about LPG here is my feedback

    I had LPG fitted to my disco series I a couple of weeks ago (thank you Bee Utey) - free plug!!!

    i have now driven it enough to be able to do a comparison between gas and petrol. my range on petrol is 500km which cost on average about $135-00 My range on gas is 250km which costs on average $35-00

    This means that I am making a savings of about 50% on gas or petrol is 100% more expensive depends on how you want to look at it - My thoughts, if you can afford it and with the gov rebate pretty much everyone can, go for it the savings are worth it.

    to put it into a weekly perspective, I am saving better than $50-00 per week, per year that will add up to over $2500-00 per year to spend on more go better bits on the old girl

    Cheers Blythe

    The next statement that will arrive is: That will all change when they lift the excise on LPG.

    My answer is the excise will never get as high as the excise on petrol, if only that they don't want the taxis to switch back to petrol for the pollution issues and that's exactly what will happen if LPG and petrol are taxed at the same rate.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Its a well publicised rate that tops out at a quite reasonable 12.5% in 2015 .
    I'll look it up - by the time it kicks in we will be paying $1.40 a litre for petrol anyway.

    Thank you Blitz!
    Please note this was achieved with the latest Gastec FP-50DS LPG processor and oxy sensor, so its as good as you can get without modding the petrol for oxy sensors too.
    You have one more year (1 July 2011) before the first 2.5cpl of excise hits LPG.

    LPG is indeed more cost effective and if you are doing the K's to warrant it go for it. However LPG burns at a higher temperature than petrol and so damage can be caused to the valves if they are not made of hardened metal as in the case of Ford six cylinder motors. Check to see if your motor is able to handle the higher temperatures before converting!!!

    I believe the issue is that LPG is a slow burning fuel so that the peak temperature is lower but heat load overall is slightly higher. It is mainly the lack of lubrication in LPG that causes wear with soft valves and seats.
    Traditional Rover V8's all seem to be able to handle the extra heat loading due to the alloy heads being a good heat conductor and are with hardened seats. Some at-risk engines benefit from upper cylinder lube such as Flashlube. Modern engines with gas injection can be set up with petrol addition under load or electronic metering of lube with the newest Flashlube computerised kits.

    <snip>
    We're already in the high $1.30's for petrol last week and the price of crude continues to rise as the GFC eases.

    Which motors would that be. Ford have a factory (dedicated) Gas option for thier 6 cylinders. I can't see them not being suitable
